  • If you believe that not going to church on Sunday is hindering your relationship with God, then you should attend.

As someone else suggested, maybe you could do something else to supplement your income. If this is the right thing to do, something will turn up.

God will honour your commitment to him.

I have been a Christian for 26 years and still miss the Fellowship I've attended until I moved to Spain in 2004.

Personally, I would give up the job.

Im not religeous anymore, but I do remember God showing me some different solutions when I was close to Him. So maybe via a contact through the church or something might bring in additional pennies. ;)

The main thing about dealing with the long slog of debt reduction is that inner strength and perseverence is one thing that we all need in the bucketload, and thats more important than what money you make I find.

    Good luck on your journey

Go with your heart (and I think you've made up your mind here), but I'm sure God understands your predicament and will excuse you a few weeks/months of church attendance in order that you do what you have been doing i.e. tackling your responsibilities head on. God is loving and forgiving remember, so don't beat yourself up about this.

The Saw Doctors have a line in one of their songs ("Same Oul Town") that goes....
"you know you'd often wonder as the years go past
why you ever bothered going to mass
was it the fear of god or to find a wife
or just buying shares in the afterlife
    "

God doesn't count his flock by their attendance at church - I am a practising Catholic, but have only been to mass 3 times (+ a funeral) in over 2 years. I know that God thinks no less of me, I have a full life, I don't feel the need to show my faith in that way.

Do what you want to do, but not what you or other people think you should or to please others. God will still love you whether you have to work or are able to attend your service - you can pray at work, you can sing the songs from your service in the car or in the shower - He still knows & still hears you.

I know God will still love me if I don't attend but I think that attending just helps me stay focused on him though as in todays world God can so easily forgotten and it helps me stay close to people who follow him too.

Go back to church. I am sure you will be happier and more likely to find another way to make up the lost money. After all, a few years ago this wouldn't have been an issue. No one worked on a sunday, there were no shops open or as I remember it anything open! Sunday was about church, roast beef with the family and then songs of praise, bullseye, and bergerac. People argued sunday trading for this reason. Don't feel guilty for sacrificing work for faith... it may be a little more hardship but that is sometimes what being a christian is about. Do what you feel is right; not what you feel makes sense.

when i first read your question i thought work and get the debt paid however if someone said they hated their job, wanted to spend more time with kids, was stressed i would no doubt say then quit the job and take longer to pay off your debt.

if your friends think its odd for you to quit a job for church then just ask them if they would think it odd for the other reasons mentioned above??

so i would quit, yes it will take longer but you will be heathier (in mind too) and happier when you get there.
