  • Yes, you need insurance to drive a car on the public roads.

In short, yes. You will be driving on the public highway to get to the MOT and so need insurance accordingly. If you Google for short term car insurance then you can get insurance for, say, 1 or 2 days to get it to the test centre and back.

If you only want it for the trip to and from the MOT test, you could find a friend who has driving other cars (third party) with their comprehensive policy to take it to and from the garage. Quite legal, as long as the car isn't left parked on the road at any time.

Check your policy details because some companies require the car that you are borrowing to have an insurance policy running on it. If your insurance doesn't require this then yes you will be fine.
  • yes, what do you think happens if you drive into the back of my new ferrari?

Your driving other cars will cover it ok - as mentioned, check your policy doesn't have anything in it about the other car needing to be insured (most policies don't).
