Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for 15th December. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning. :santa2:
I get to start the post... I guess Diva must be sleeping off her birthday hangover?
Cool here with rain forecast ugh! Don't need that, the garden is drying up nicely.
Day off, so got a few things planned for the day. Dentist at 12, to check over some toothache I had.... Then school parents evening at 3.30 so not that exciting. Pay day today, a large chunk went to mr Brown as usual to help with the debts he created.
Used the items I got in the morrisons deal last week for tea last night and made a honey and mustard with sage roasted pork, delicious. Did anyone get the deal? Loin of pork, 2 fresh soup, veg, trifle all for £4... bargain.
Well, have a good day everyone

Morning N9eav & all who cross or follow
Off to work soon, I've so much to do today that I will be closing the department at 10 to all other work, boy will I be popular! I was given a bottle of wine & 2 tins of biscuits y'day so some people appreciate my efforts.
Last night I made 20 Christmas cards, so I only have a few more to make now, they were the fronts of last years cards, cut & stuck onto new white card, very cheap, under 40p for the envelopes & I had some card kicking around at home.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Only 10 days until Christmas  Where has the time gone???
A cold start here today so the heating is already on. Not many plans so I'm going to have a baking day & get some stuff into the freezer ready for when the children break up for the holidays.
Going to make porridge for breakfast so I'd better get a wriggle on.
Have good days all.0 -

In my calendar - a Christmas tree :snow_grin
Plumber's coming this afternoon :j We haven't had hot water for almost 3 months, it'll be nice to wash up without having to boil the kettle first  It'll also be nice to wake up to a warm house.
Nipping to the shops this morning, I've run out of almost everything. What with everything going on lately, I can't be bothered with baking so I'm going to buy goodies this week, instead of making them.Bulletproof0 -
Morning all.
Made up with my mum :Twe both had a few tears, and admitted that we have both been very stressed. Off to see her for a while this morning, we have had some bad news re my dad too, so its all a bit upsetting here. Will post more about that later. Thanks for all the lovely messages and pm's xx
Off to work today, only today and tomorrow left, and thats me finished for Xmas :T, its meant to be getting bitterly cold here this week, with snow due.
DD and I will do shopping on Friday, and start to get the xmas bits in, still no move date, hopefully today, but I am thinking it will be after xmas now, so need to start getting bits.
Gnocci for tea, with garlic bread, and will made a tomato salad, we seem to have a load of toms left.
Need to do another wash tonight, doing a small bit each day and putting it on the rads seems to be working for me at the moment.
Ok better get on, have good days all xx
Haribo, hope you are ok, not seen you online for a while xx0 -
Morning peeps
thought that i would pop in and say hi to everyone whilst i get chance.
The kitchen is now in a mostly useable state and the only thing that will happen before Christmas now is a permanent light fitting - oh and the rest of the concrete floor will be painted to seal it ( i`ve been doing it in squares so that i can still use bits of floor) My fridge and freezer are back in there and the old sink unit has been cleaned up so that its useable for a while, my new cooker was fitted yesterday afternoon :j
I`ve already done 2 loads of washing and emptied the dishwasher and i have loads to do today so thought that another early start would be wise.
The boxes where everything is stored will be all moved upstairs today as soon as i`ve reorganised a couple of them, this will let me scrub the downstairs and get some curtains back up - can`t wait. It dosen`t seem cosy at all without them but the huge soot fall that we had upstairs meant that every single thing in the house has had to be scrubbed and it`s certainly been taking up lots of my time.
N9eav - I got the Morrisons deal :jwhat a bargain, the loin of pork looks gorgeous. I froze the meat and the soup as i couldn`t manage to cook it but still have the veg to eat. Last night i confess to sitting down starving and exhausted and eating the whole trifle
Diva - I seem to have missed your Birthday so a belated "many happy returns" from me
Tru - Good luck with the hot water!
Sorry to anyone who i`ve missed as i`ve not had time to keep up at all
Ok i need to make a move and start at the top of the mountain whilst i`m still in the mood.
Have a good day peeps.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Good Morning all, blooming freezing here and the road outside is white with frost.Snow is forecast for tomorrow, I must take care as I have the school run to do with the three little ones .We play 'dragons' when its cold on the way to school and blow out our breaths to see who can make the biggest 'smoke'
I had a smashing lunch with my pals from the craft club yesterday and my friend who came down from Dartford also came with me as she sometimes goes to the club as well.We came back afterwards to my house and she helped me to declutter some of my books .Bless her she is very good and we filled her car up with stuff which she took back with her and she will divide up beteen the five charity shops in Dartford. She volunteers at the local Hospice in Gravesend on a Monday so she said she will take some books in there as they are always looking for stuff to sell on their stall to help out with funds.
Well I'm off to have a big bowl of porridge(sound like Goldilocks )lol, but its a great tummy warmer on a cold day.Have a good one everybody, and try not to stress too much, after all we will be doing all this chasing around again next year.<<hugs>> to those who are feeling down or sad,not everyone will be looking forward to Christmas. My dear niece lost her husband 10 months ago and this will be a hard time for her with her two little girls of 11 &7. But she does have a little good news at least, she has found a house to rent in Westerham and she moves in after Christmas hopefully, and she will get her own furniture and bits and pieces around her once more. She has been living with her Mum for the past 10 months, and as lovely as her Mum is its not the same as having a home of your own.Her and the girls will find it hard at first but I'm sure they will cope o.k.
So have a good day everyone, and mind how you go if its icy underfoot
Cheers JackieO xx0 -
Morning all
Cold and dark here, brrr. My second long day at work today then half a day tomorrow then finished for the week. Have DS2's Carol Service at church tomorrow afternoon, this will be the first time I've been able to go as it's always been when I've been at work and unable to get time off, so spoke to both sets of grandparents last night to see if they wanted to go, unfortunately OH's parents had already committed to go to see OH's nan (MIL's mum who's had the big cancer op), so she was a bit disappointed.
Last night's dinner was lovely gammon steaks, egg, onion & chive sauce, mash, cauli, broccolli and green beans, yummy....
Stayed the same last week when I weighed but went to the scales yesterday and have lost another 1lb so more than pleased with that, as I weighed last Thursday so will weigh again either this Thursday or Friday and again next Wednesday so I have an accurate picture of where I am before Christmas. Total loss is now 2 stone 9lb - if I could lose another 1lb this week and then 2 lb next week I would be getting close to a total 3 stone loss - that would be a great way to start the New Year - would then only be looking at needing to loose another 1 stone'ish! Haven't set a definite target as want to keep reasonably laid back about it all - whilst keeping focused!
Tonight for dinner we have leftover roast lamb with mash and veggies etc - easy dinner! Really must check what last minute prezzies I still have to buy and get those bought so I can get everything wrapped. Need to keep up to date with the washing and ironing as I'm intending to pack for our time away over New Year on Christmas Eve - so I don't spend Boxing Day and the morning we go in a panic.
Have to go now, keep safe and well, hugs to those that need them.

Morning Folks
Sorry to be a bit spasmodic atm, but time is just flying by. Been busy on Grabit and Hotdeals gettings extras for Xmas and sorting out for our trip back to Spain in the New Year. Also been emptying the 'van as we get our new on next week. I think a serious de-clutter needs to take place before we put things back:o:confused:. How can you get so much in a touring caravan.. I am a bit put out as I have "lost" a small jewellery case which I take with me with most of my jewellery in, last time I remember seeing it was in the 'van in September, thought about it was I was leaving for Spain, went in to see if I could see it quickly, as we were just about to set off, but couldn't but thought I had put it "in a safe place", however, not to be found when I got back, so hoped it would turn up when we emptied the 'van, but no joy. Don't know where to look next, it is constantly on my mind.
Also knitting a dynasaur for GNephew3, he is 9 months now and likes soft toys. Yesterday DS asked how long it would take to knit him a Christmasy jumper, we compromised on a bobble hat.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Some bits of shopping today and see if I can decide what to have for our Xmas day with him and his gf on the 27th. He is turning into a real food gourmet, not sure where he gets it from, or that my cooking skills match it. We also have the added problem is that GF is veggy but eats fish and DH does not really like fish, so may be too meals.
Think I need to file all the family tree stuff away now for a few weeks as it is a very big eater of time.
Still barking and croaking and DH has joined in too, but don't feel ill ill IYKWIM.
HJ - Hope you get your internet connection sorted out soon.
:grouphug: to ALL
Take care - DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Good morning guys,
One in anticipation of some snow soon hopefully.
Cold here today, the central heating hasn't been off for days. Can't wait for the bill - not!!!
Off today as DD has a temperature, sore throat and headache. She's very pale and tired and currently on the sofa. I feel bad not going in to work again but there is no one else that can step in when the kids are ill.
The kids finally won yesterday and the rest of the deccies are up, Just got a half dozen more pressies to wrap when they arrive, a few more cards to do and Monday's shop to put away and that's it - I am done. :T:T
Today's plans are to clean through, do some ironing, I've got a wash on - so dry that and anything else that I find to do through the day. Lunch will be chicken soup for us both and tea will be mince and mash.
Gentle hugs to all who need one today and keep warm everyone,
Smoky. xxxIf you are patient in one moment of anger, you will escape 100 days of sorrow.......Chinese proverb
