  • If she was in the car then she's using it without insurance not permitting.

OP i wouldnt worry about the cause to permit it down to police discretion weather to charge you or not and it would be unlikely in these curcomstances as you didnt permit to drive knowing he wasnt covered as you thought he was covered and even IF the police wanted to talk to you about the situation i doubt you'd be charged more of a telling off "caution". OH would need to telephone the insurance to find out weather he is covered. if not covered he will be reported to the CPS (crown prosecution service) he will then receive a summons to court, he may then get 3-6 points and a fine (fines vary) or a short ban and a fine. i'm not sure weather theres a time frame on weather they have to get it into court by though.

If you're going to use one word so many times you should really use the right one (ie whether)

Weather = clouds, sun, rain, snow. ;)

Errrrrrr, what I said is true. OP's OH is going to need a mortgage to pay for car insurance as a result of their 'assumption'

    ?

What does it say in the policy booklet about driving other cars (eg does it say that if cover is provided it will be shown on the cert)?

    Who is he insured by?

  • There was a fuss about this about 2-3 years ago as the insurers started dropping this "benefit" from their policies. With anything legal/insurance, it's safer to assume nothing. Always check the small print.

I just thought of another idea. If he's 25 atm, and if you took out the policy before his 25th birthday, it may be that they then added the any vehicle 3rd party entitlement on his birthday but didn't tell him/send any documentation to that effect. In which case all is fine. Hopefully this will be the case. :D Yes, who is the insurer?

    Halifax is the insurer.

We went and took the documents (OH went in i didn't) and the lady took photo copies of both insurance policies and just said to OH ' Oh so you have 3rd party insurance for the other car'

So what does it say in your schedule of cover and on the certificate?

There is no exclusions on the certificate - doesn't say he's not insured to drive other cars -like mine, but doesn't say he is - like on my mum's document.

Need to look at the schedule to see if it confirms it.
