But she already stated in another post that the vet said they could pay over the next 30 days  she DIDN'T have to find another tenner there and then - she had a month to raise that - or not as would have been the case when the case was reviewed (I grant you she wouldn't have known that).

    :)

No I didn't, my original post said the operation was over £300 but they would accept no less than £250 there and then to go ahead and the rest would have to be paid in 30 days.

  • What a shame, I am sorry for your loss but I agree with what the majority of posters have said.

A vet is a business after all, but the PDSA is a charity that relies on donations.

I don't think suing them would achieve anything - its not going to bring your kitten back and its not going to relieve your child of any trauma.

For future pets please please look at insurance. If you cannot afford it, take it as a sign that getting a pet at that particluar maybe isnt the best thing.

I would hardly have thought there was enough there to kill a reasonable sized dog. None of the brands of chocolate mentioned contain much in the way of chocolate. My own dog (17kg) ate his way through a large box of roses and celebrations one afternoon ( at least a kilo total weight with wrappers) and lived to tell the tale with no side effects whatsoever ( apart from highly coloured poo for the next couple of days.

Even the emergency vet we contacted said there was so very little Theobromine in the chocolate he would be surprised if the dog even got the runs (which he never)

As for raisin toxicology, not all dogs are prone to it. The warnings about raisins is given because SOME dogs will die
Excuse me, but just because I choose not to post doesn't mean to say I don't spend a lot of time on this fourm

And I have a pair of perfectly good eyes in my head - and glasses just in case I miss anything

I can see bullying a mile away.

I also can not see anything in Ruby Moons post that hasnt been said one way or another, by - should we dare say " more popular posters" and no one has dared drag up any old post of theirs to belittle them.

Post count doesn't make anyone any better then another on this forum or any other.

    Opinions were asked for

We can not pick and choose who is allowed their opinion and who isn't

The poster I was addressing made several comments about the OP not supervising her cat, and also said that the OP should think herself lucky she wasn't charged with cruelty and neglect, and that was in just two comments I quoted (much harsher than other posters). I was merely pointing out how easy it is for pets to get into mischief and used her own experience to highlight my point (not to 'drag up and belittle her') so she might understand what I meant. I didn't say that Ruby Moon was stupid or neglectful (as she did to the OP) or an irresponsible pet owner, these things happen and it is impossible to foresee what mischief our pets are going to get up to. I just said she was being very judgemental given her own experiences.

But if you think a post is "bullying" or out of order then - and I do seem to repeat this a lot :) - PRESS THE REPORT BUTTON

It's what it's there for and all reports are investigated by the abuse team.

Pets are an emotive subject always has been and always will be. Generally this is a reflection of how much people love their animals I think - but that doesn't mean that there is any justification for swearing, name calling or abuse.

However a non-abuse oppinion has as much right to remain on the board even if it is disagreed with or isn't what the OP or other posters wishes to hear.

This is an open forum and as such differences of oppinion is part of the course - and if posters don't report posts that are out of order then nothing will be done about them... It's a bit like voting :) Unless you vote in the elections you shouldn't comment on the job the goverment is doing ;)

  • This thread has become quite irrelevant and nothing to do with the original post. No need to make it personal just because somebody disagrees with another person's point of view.People have different opinions and have a right to express those opinions (within reason) - it's called DEMOCRACY!

Button, I have Argos Platinum insurance & pay £12.80 a month for my two moggies. As I have very little in the way of savings for me, this is the best option. If something happened, I would not have to stress over putting a balance on my credit card & struggling to pay it off.

I think if they haven't had their jabs when you take out the insurance you aren't covered for ailments relating to that - actually I can't even remember Argos asking whether mine were up to date? Obviously it's a personal choice & if you have enough in savings to cover any costs that could possibly arise then it could be seen as unecessary - I would just hate anyone else to be put in the position of the OP here and have to make a decision on a purely financial basis.

I just thought I would let people know I have accepted the offer from the vets and I will not be getting another animal ever as I could not bear to go through this again. I just want to say that when I originally asked for the £500 it was because I wanted to use the money to do something nice for my children after what happened and also I felt that I had a point to prove to the vets in that the kitten is not as easily replaced as say a tv and what they put in the letter admitting fault was that the money would put me back in the position I started before I got the cat, which seems to totally disregard the impact she had on our family. I feel very sad that I will no longer be able to get the enjoyment from a pet as I always have done but as I say she cannot be replaced.

I would like to say thankyou to the people who looked at the post and tried to help rather than just judge me as a person and I am glad it has helped me to reach the decision I have as since I sent the acceptance letter this morning I feel more peaceful than I have for ages.

I think you have made the best decision for you and your family. I hope that in time your pain passes. In time you may start to feel differently, your case was very unusual and I doubt very much it would happen again. I have lost 2 pets (a cat and a dog) when they have been hit by a car and it took me a long time to come to terms with their deaths and be able to get another animal again. Another animal does not replace the one you have lost but do not deny yourself the joy that they bring because you wouldnt want to face it again. I do think that if you do decide to get another (I know you say you wont but I really hope you do), then its worth looking into insurance which can be as little as £6 a month (okay more if you want decent insurance but that will give you the basic cover). Please do not be put off another animal because of comments on this forum, I think some have been very unkind and uncalled for.
