Should I take vets to court??

Stress on they think - "they" did not think I was a suitable owner for a rescue cat, "they" did not think I was a suitable owner for a rescue GS so there is at least one cat and one GS somewhere in a shelter behind bars instead of being here on my bed/armchair etc.
Bought my dog and cat privately in the end. Without "help" from whiter than white do-goodies.

If we'd known all about how the car had broken the week before and she was going to spend her food budget for the week on the cat at the very beginning, maybe people wouldn't have been so harsh about it
She wanted advice about the courts - people have given her that. But with an emotive subject such as animals being put to sleep (especially when this could have potentially been avoided) then people are going to get their backs up, and the attitude of the OP didn't seem to help
thanks claire got to be honest only read first post and well you know how it looked
OP sorry if i seemed harsh just way i seen it hope your daughter is ok nowIf you dont like me remember its mind over matter, I dont mind and you dont matter0 -
I know the way I wrote the original post it may have seemed a bit straight to the point but the truth is I am devestated and even after 4 weeks I am still in shock. There is not a day goes by without me feeling guilty. Yes I should have probably tried to cover the wound but I was in shock and the EV did not suggest doing anything so we just tried to get her there as quickly as possible. My daughter is still having regular nightmares about it and unfortunately was in the room when I was crying and had to tell my husband that we could not afford the operation so she knows this was avoidable and this is what makes me most upset. People can talk about contingency money all they want but the simple truth is that the operation costs were covered by my local vets it's just that no-one had told me that. It is normal for local vets to take on all aftercare costs (emergency or otherwise) so I cannot understand how 2 people working there did not know this.April GC 9th-7th may £0/£3200

If someone can not separate the two,
maybe he/she should not be venting their life frustrations on a stranger on a public forum?
If the OP does not want those opinions they shouldn't be posting on a public forum.0 -

I got my dog neutered last month and despite having a lamp shade collar on the little so and so managed to pull out a stitch, it took him all of 20 seconds (the time it took me to walk to the kitchen and back), thankfully he was fine and I watched him like a hawk (even slept downstairs with him like a right saddo lol) to be sure it didn't happen again. So I don't think the OP is negligent for not seeing the cat pull out it's stitches, especially if it didn't have a collar on.
As for being greedy, I think the OP must themselves feel they are being greedy as people don't often ask if others think they're being greedy unless they're doing something they feel could be seen as greedy. Personally I'd probably ask for the vets fees back and then want nothing more to do with them, no amount of cash can bring your pet back.
I'm sorry you lost your cat, especially under these circumstances, and please if you do get another pet, consider insurance so you never have to go through this again.Sigless0 -

But didn't you say the EV said you could pay the money you had on you now & the rest after
If it was £1000 or £2000 the treatment I can understand you taking a long hard look at can you afford it, but you are talking about a couple of hundred quid between life & death0 -
When one of our dogs got neutured, his stitches fell out (didn't pull them out) and he was taken straight to the vets. Actually, I think he was due to either have them taken out or have injections.
As for the stuff with insurance - after a pretty tough year involving vets and having to have 2 dogs put to sleep, plus losing a another one, (suspected heart attack) my parents did think about insurance. After weighing up the pros and cons, they decided it's better to put the money into a savings account and use that - they said it would be a waste if their animals were healthy right up until they died. My view? Either you find it offensive to be offered money for a beloved pet and would refuse or donate the £100 to a charity or you want money and in my book that's greedy.
I would have found the money if the kitten could have been saved and argued about it later to be honest. I've always had my pets insured but even so I've never stopped to ask if anything would be covered by their policy or go over the limit - I've just told the vet to "please please please save them!"
If an oncall vet (so more than likely a locum or from a different surgery) got the procedure wrong for THIS surgery (bear in mind different surgeries have very different policies - it may be that they hadn't been clearly pointed out to him/her) and the vets are correcting that and as a gesture giving you £100 on top. Personally I'd donate that money to a rescue...
You asked if we thought you were being greedy in your first post... yes I think you are. Sorry. If you'd said "I think they should learn a lesson and although I don't want a penny of their money - it'll all go to cats protection league - I think they need to realise that giving this advice was wrong" then people might have had a VERY different reaction...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Compensation isn't going to stop your daughter being traumatised. Have you thought about reporting this incident to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons? I would have thought ensuring this kind of thing doesn't happen to another family would be more important than money.3-6 Month Emergency Fund #14: £9000 / £10,0000
