Not at all. The olives and crab paste came before we'd even seen the menu (and chosen a starter) and I am not suggesting that they were the cause but I am interested in the food allergy comment as I hadn't seriously considered it before.

So an allergic reaction which was suggested eons ago on page 1 (before you mentioned crab/shellfish (and other things) being consumed (kind of important) is perhaps a more realistic possibilty?

    So just to clarify:-

    It wasn't just a duck egg...with shell?

It was more than an hour?

There was some sort of shellfish...crab or whatever?

    Black pudding was consumed?

    Beef was perhaps eaten?

    Some alcohol too perhaps?

    ..and you are well now?
I hoped I had already bowed to your knowledge on this one and I am willing to believe that the most likely cause is a food allergy if that is what you think.

im sorry you are ill and i havent read the whole thread yet but i dont believe it to be food poisoning. such thing take effect after 12+, usually, 24 hours, after contamination of your body. stomach bugs, 24 hour jobbies from point of contact, when you spread it round the most as you dont know you had the virus, food poisoning is pretty much the same.

so probably crap meal of which you are entitled to complain but i wouldnt blame thre meal for immediate food poisoning. if its definately classed as FPthr winter vomiting bug thrn i would look at what you ate the night before.

    hope you feel better soon

GWM I've given you my opinion (all anyone can do on MSE). I'd perhaps think about asking the restaurant about what you had regarding the olives and crab stuff and make an appointment with your GP with a view to getting an appointment with a Consultant Immunologist who will be able to do some allergy testing based on what you consumed. Tell the consultant everything you ate...give them all info!...it will save time!

    from the nhs website:

The time it takes for symptoms to develop after eating contaminated food is called the incubation period.
The incubation period can range from one hour to 90 days. Most cases of food poisoning have an incubation period of between one and three days.
The most common symptoms of food poisoning are:
    • nausea,
    • vomiting, and
    • diarrhoea.
other symptoms of food poisoning include:
    • stomach cramps,
    • abdominal pain,
    • loss of appetite,
    • a high temperature (fever) of 38°c (100.4°f) or above,
    • muscle pain, and
    • chills.

    i thanked in error.
