So as a qualified microbioligist are you saying that it is impossible to show the symptons of food poisoning within two hours of contracting it?

Why is it now 2 hours...I thought your OP said 1?. That aside what I have said is that it is more likely that it is an allergic reaction given your original timescale or a result of an earlier ingestion?

'Thanks for your understanding'....4 words, sarcasm perhaps? OP is still trying to lay the blame at the restaurants door...salmonella...no? if not that then what about Staphylococcus aureus (italics are correct...or an underline maybe)...yes that fits, lets go with that as a 'diagnosis' The most obvious cause of food poisoning (if that's what it is) will have been ingested hours before the OP entered the restaurant.

As you are obviously an expert in your field, perhaps I should take the allergic reaction more seriously. The only things I ate which I hadn't eaten before were the duck egg and a baby turnip (which I ate before I knew what it was). I dislike most members of the onion family and I didn't like the baby turnip. Perhaps that caused my symptoms? If so, I hadn't thought it would have had such a serious reaction (fainting, stomach pain and diarrohea). If this was the cause, then of course the restaurant is free of any blame and I am grateful for your answer.

[Note I said 2 hours as that was the time I first ate anything in the restaurant (olives and some crab paste on a cracker] to when I showed symptoms.]

I don't mean to sound rude (I'm just curious) but what have onions got to do with turnips?

Your OP, ie numero #1 said:- 'An hour or so after eating the starter'...?..as in 1 hour or so...no mention of 2 there? Or have you yet again had second thoughts?

    So just to clarify:-

    It wasn't just a duck egg...with shell?

It was more than an hour?

There was some sort of shellfish...crab or whatever?

    Black pudding was consumed?

    Beef was perhaps eaten?

    Some alcohol too perhaps?

    ..and you are well now?

Not at all. The olives and crab paste came before we'd even seen the menu (and chosen a starter) and I am not suggesting that they were the cause but I am interested in the food allergy comment as I hadn't seriously considered it before.
