Being large and expensive is neither here nor there. This year's Heston Blumenthal Fat Duck food poisoning outbreak demonstrates this.
That wasnt food poisoning , it was the winter vomiting bug
I once had a McDonalds chicken burger and was violently ill shortly after eating it , food poisoning can come on early . And I keep away from ducks eggs after having a ''reaction '' to one:rolleyes:Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
It sounds like it could be staphylococcal food poisoning which can take as little as 30 minutes.
Found this on a government website:
What are the symptoms of staphylococcal food poisoning? Staphylococcal toxins are fast acting, sometimes causing illness in as little as 30 minutes. Symptoms usually develop within one to six hours after eating contaminated food. Patients typically experience several of the following: nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. The illness is usually mild and most patients recover after one to three days. In a small minority of patients the illness may be more severe.0 -

even if it was staph. aureus, it could still point towards the salad you had for lunch.
a quote from medline (from the US national library of medicine)Staphylococcus aureus food poisoning is often caused when a food handler contaminates food products that are served or stored at room- or refrigerator temperature. Common examples of such foods are desserts (especially custards and cream-filled or topped desserts), salads (especially those containing mayonnaise, such as tuna salad, potato salad, and macaroni salad), poultry and other egg products, and casseroles.
The bacteria produce a toxin in the food, which causes most of the symptoms. Risk factors include:
Eating food that was prepared by a person with a skin infection (these infections commonly contain Staphylococcus aureus bacteria)
Eating food kept at room temperature
Eating improperly prepared food
Eating the same food as someone who has symptoms
yes, it could have been the egg, but it's just as likely to have been the salad. without testing the bacteria and the foods you ate, aswell as finding out if either establishments have made anyone else similarly ill, it's hard to say where you got the bug from.helpful tips

I agree with brettcta, there is no doubting something made you ill, but proving what at this stage will be nigh on impossible.
I had a bowel infection a few months back, was quite ill for over a week with it so finally went to my GP. He was 99% certain it was a result of an Indian Takeaway I had the week before but of course, its impossible to prove.
I voted with my feet and havent eaten from there since.0 -
The symptoms were gone after 7 hours...?0

the only thing the OP can take from this is that he was dealt a bad hand and to be thankful it wasn't anything more serious that required hospitalisation.
i've never liked eating at restaurants inside hotels. they've always seemed very much substandard to 'proper' standalone restaurants. i ate in the sas raddison on christmas eve in berlin last year and the meals were dreadful and also quite expensive for what they were.
we went to a small family run restaurant the next night and had the best steaks we've ever had for less than half the price of what we paid the night before for worse food.helpful tips

As it was only last weekend, I intend seeing my GP tomorrow (today was fully booked!) and yes I did take a stool sample within 24 hours. But as others have said it may prove extremely difficult to prove it was the restaurant. I have been eating my home-made salads for years which are all prepared fresh from washed ingredients stored in the fridge. I had hoped the restaurant may have been a little more understanding and sympathetic as the evening had been ruined.0
