  • if you buy the single from amazon for 29p it won't count in the chart battle.
it has to cost a minimum of 49p to count.
so if you really must get joe's single, get it off amazon but leave RATM to the following:
iTUNES - 99p - track #2 (click on 'view in itunes' on the right)
    http://!!!!!!/ratm-itunes

    PLAY.COM - 65p - it's the only track on the page
    http://!!!!!!/ratm-play

    7DIGITAL - 50p - track #2
    http://!!!!!!/rage-7digital

    HMV.COM - 79p (careful - this is track #1)
    http://!!!!!!/ratm-hmv

    TUNETRIBE - 49P - track #2 - LIVE version (yes it counts)
    http://!!!!!!/ratm-tunetribe
    or
    http://!!!!!!/rage-tunetribe (Studio Version)

    TESCO DIGITAL - 67p - track #2
    http://!!!!!!/ratm-tesco

    WE7 - £1.07p - track #2

My understanding is that it will count as Amazon buy the track for more than 40p and are selling at 29p as a loss-leader. They want to get as many people as possible using their download service to make future profits.

If you want to buy the Joe song wait until after Sunday!

Although RATM are signed to Sony I didn't think they were part of Cowell's bit of Sony.

We all know Martin Lewis has no idea about music and I don't think he is supporting Joe - as always he is letting the consumer know where to get what they want for the lowest price.

Even if you don't buy either single a £2 donation to Shelter could make a difference.

Yes - if you're tone deaf, then wait until after Sunday.

That's correct, Simon's label is called Syco (sicko?). The parent company of that label is Sony. Sony ultimately benefit from Simon Cowell's sales through Syco, but Simon Cowell doesn't benefit from Sony's record sales. The money flows up, but not down.

It's similar to Boots. Boots' profits are inherited by its parent company KKR - but that doesn't mean that profits from other KKR companies flow down to Boots.

That's true. I believe that Martin doesn't even own a single CD (or if he does, it's because it's either been bought for him as a present or it's one of his wife's :)).

Donations through the JustGiving site are fast approaching £40,000 - that's a fantastic achievement.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't put money in Simon Cowell's pocket, regardless of whether it's 29p or £29K.

I'm fed up of puppets getting to Number #1. It's about time that the Christmas #1 had an element of musicianship again (like somebody who actually knows how to play a guitar would be a good start!!).

Regardless of whether or not you like Rage Against The Machine, at least they can play their instruments.

Given that there's a special episode of Top Of The Pops on Christmas Day, it would be FANTASTIC to see Rage Against The Machine at Number #1 (even if the BBC will play about 20 seconds of it and have a full live performance by Joe McWhatshisname).

I love the fact that somebody's taken the time and trouble to set up a facebook forum to boycott X-Factor - it will be truly refreshing NOT to have Simon Cowell at #1 for a change.

Edit - Please consider putting your 29p towards the charity Shelter. The RATM facebook people have set up a webpage on the Just Giving website - already the level of support is fantastic and they've collected over £26,000.

Remember, nobody should be homeless at Christmas - so please please please consider making a donation.

Buying either puts money in Simon Cowells pocket.

I think it's such a petty thing to do, but there you go.

MSE why are you supporting Joe McEldery over Rage Against The Machine?!!!! You scum! I always had so much faith in you Martin but your bias is now coming out. It's a disgrace, Joe is not even the most popular song at the moment. I am quitting the MSE email list and will encourage my friends to do the same. And I will NOT buy Mcelderry, nice boy as he might be, despite your prejudice and anti-consumer bias. Bye bye MSE.

either song is going to give simon cowell a big paypacket anyway so all those out there who think theyre destroying cowells smile will be heavily mistaken:rolleyes:
If this song doesn't make it to #1 it will be a huge kick in the teeth for Cowell. The beginning of the end for X Factor. He WILL take it personally as very few people are talking about the actual singer, it is RATM -v- Cowell. The only time I have ever paid for an MP3 file. Real musicians or super hyped karaoke - you decide.

  • I bought RATM too (even though I have had the CD since it first came out), but do I think they'll hit No.1?... No.

1 - The X-Craptor audience was around 20 million, so even if just a fraction of that audience buys their single (10%+), it'll most likely end up out-selling RATM.

2 - The RATM FaceBook campaign will (has?) spawn a counter campaign & so increase the X-Craptor sales.

3 - The charts are fixed - Always have been & always will be in some way shape or form. I'd like to be wrong, but I just doubt that the UK music industry would let a 15+ year old heavy rock track beat a heavily funded manufactured new artist to the number one spot.

    We can dream though...

Last year's winner sold under 600,000 I believe. The Facebook campaign has 750,000 people on it I heard. What's the point of joining a group if you don't put your money where your mouth is. If that group realise it only costs 29p. I haven't joined that group and there must be many like me that took the opportunity to tell Simon Cowell where he can shove his manufactured music. I don't think RATM will get the top spot either once CD sales kick in but what I do think is in their favour is people taking this battle personally and if the karaoke winner pulls ahead then those that have already bought the RATM may buy a couple more. I can't see people buying more of the expensive CDs that will make up most of Cowell's sales (who is Joe McElderry anyway).
