    Agree regarding Economy class.

In Business Class I got a toilet bag with shaving foam, razor, after shave, toothbrush, toothpaste etc etc.

Hi -used to work on Emirates check in. They don't unfortunately offer any extras like that in Economy just the ones already listed on other posts. Would be worth ringing up today though to see if it is a full flight - if it is put on your best bib and tucker and smile and ask politely at check in if there is any chance of an upgrade (you might get a "SFU" put next to your name - Suitable For Upgrade and get bumped up once you reach the gate). If the flight is not full when you ring ask again whether it is full when you get to check in if it isn't ask (nicely - check in staff don't get many smiles I can assure you!) if there is a chance you could have the seats next to you blocked and at least you will have a lot more space to yourself. They can't do this on your Dubai to New Zealand leg because they can't guarantee that another airport won't use the seats next to you when they book in their onward passengers but at least on your UK to Dubai leg (usually around 6 hour flight) it will be a lot more comfy. Hope this helps. Have a lovely time
  • upavon1, what you described about upgrading, do they do this with all airlines?

We are flying to NZ via HK with Air New Zealand at the end of Feb, so would be really interested in knowing how to increase our chances of being offered an upgrade.

Not being a seasoned traveller like many of you on here, it be very interesting to hear your thoughts.

There's a big long thread on here talking about upgrades if you can find it - the long and the short of it is that the above won't work.

Emirates will upgrade those on their Skywards FF programme first. If you are a Gold member then you do get bumped up classes quite a bit, it would be very rare for a Blue or non-FF member to get bumped unless Y is really oversold.

On the UK-DXB route in Y class you will get a blanket, pillow and a set of headphones. Unless you are on a night flight in J or in any time in F then you will not get a kit. You don't even get PJs in F UK-DXB these days.

UK-DXB is only a 7 hour flight so it's no real hardship. On longer flights they do give packs out in Y class.

Well here is what I got on flights:

UK - Dubai - nothing other than blanket, pillow and standard headset.

Dubai - NZ, and NZ - Dubai - flight pack with socks, toothbrush, toothpaste and eyemask, plus blanket, pillow and standard headset.

Dubai - UK - I got free upgrade to Business Class - whoop! no idea how though! didn't ask for it, they just told me when I was boarding plane - got a lovely wash bag filled with moisturiser, toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, mirror, perfume, hand cream. Also got the noise reduction headset, really good. Posh pillow and quilt, 3 course meals on proper china, free champagne. Ah how the other half live! I really enjoyed this flight :)
