    Agreed. 'Republic of Ireland' is correct when used for descriptive purposes. Nonetheless, it remains that this is not the name of the state. Hence my response to lfc321's post which is in your quote (lfc321 said that 'Republic of Ireland' is the name).

    By Northman I did mean a Northern Irish person. It's a quote from a long story involving an Irish social club dance at a hotel in Glasgow run by the local Sinn Fêin branch a gigantic Belfast born Pakistani Bouncer and a drunk who told him to get back to his own country. With me trying to peace keep the whole thing.

    Bye the way I have met people in the north who still call it the Free State (thats taking the pïss IMO), but I still knew what they meant.
