  • Dear all, unfortunately I have to add my name to the list of people who have been duped by this company. Same story - order placed, no goods, order cancelled, no responce, credit card company told it was a personalised order... so that is where I am at with them... 10 weeks later
Today I have contacted: consumer/citizens advice, trading standards, the police and J A bathrooms. I'll let you know how I go..
  • Like so many of you, we wish we'd done our homework with regards to this so called company. We so very nearly had a successful sale until we came to install our shower screen which was supplied the wrong way round, we ordered right hand door with left hand panel and were supplied with left hand door and right hand panel. I hate to defend them but the mistake is partially down to the manufacturers confusing terminology, they refer to right hand and right hinge so a mix up is quite easy, but never the less not what we ordered. My husband went down to the shop six weeks ago as they are local to us to sort it out, correct goods were supposedly ordered straight away, delivery date given and you've guessed it no delivery or communication. Trying to reach them on the phone is impossible, it must spend practically the whole day off the hook, so I went to the shop after work to speak to the delightful Joe. What a liar, told me my husband hadn't told him the whole thing needed replacing, tried to tell me the panel was interchangeable so it would work, I'm no bathroom whizz kid but a muppet could tell you it wouldn't. Then tells me that the original boxes have to be in good condition or he can't send the goods back - NOT MY PROBLEM. Anyway, think I've made progress, once I've emailed him pictures of the boxes and he accepts he'll order the panel (he has the door, actually took me out into the warehouse and showed me). Delivery promised for following Friday and guess what, no delivery again. Managed to speak to Olivia who told me Joe was driving to Surrey on the Saturday to pick it up and delivery would now be Monday and guess again - no delivery. We went to the shop on the Saturday, had an heated discussion with Joe but he said it was sorted and the whole thing was being delivered Friday last week. Friday we get a phone call, amazing, apparently the door exploded when they loaded it into the van, utter rubbish, more stalling tactics. We told them we wanted the panel delivered still and the wrong panels taken away, they'll have to speak to Joe and call us back. Phoned back want to deliver whole lot this Thursday, told them no, deliver panel and collect wrong goods, wouldn't do it but said he would today, 21st May. So here I sit £900 down with a useless shower panel and door, can't reach them on the phone so all we can do is wIt and see if it turns up this Thursday. We believe he has financial problems with his suppliers and can't honour the orders but will quite happy take your money. We paid by debit card so I have no idea if we can get a refund through the bank as it's a guaranteed payment. I'm an easy going soul, not violent or bad tempered but this company has driven me crazy with their couldn't care less attitude and continual lies. We are going to try and speak to their supplier, their details are on the packaging but I don't suppose they'll do anything.

As a bathroom retailer with a showroom, on the web and ebay. We see this so so many times. I feel very sorry for all of you who have had problems when buying bathrooms on line. I have been retailing bathrooms from our bathroom showroom in Morley Leeds for the last 25 years. More recently we have moved on line with our own web site and also ebay & ebid.
I have seen many so called bathroom companies rise and fall over the last decade or two. They all seem to stack it high and sell it cheap. We can all do that, thats the easy bit. But be warned if it is stacked high and sold on price alone then you are not going to get the service or the quality that you would expect. These sellers really do not give a hoot about you and your bathroom, they are after your money, that's it. I am not advertising but telling you that there is a solution. Use a reputable long established company, with a shop, with & knowlegable staff. Its not always about the price its about the service, we for instance may cost a few quid more YES just a few quid more..But the difference is massive. We bend over backwards to make sure everything we sell is delivered on time and exactly as per the order you placed. I have on many occasions jumped in my car and delivered a missing item to the customer sometimes over 100 miles away.. why? because we do actually care about you and your bathroom and isn't a few extra quid worth that peace of mind?
That service costs a little more, sure but it will not break the bank , look at the experiences you have all had we could have saved you the hassle.
I find it amazing that you would buy something on line that does not have any provenance, reputation, brand name etc and just buy it because it looks good and you have been convinced by the sellers blurb.
Lets be honest from our point of view. we sell brand names or products that we know are good quality as we have used them for many years. Buy from like minded stores like us then you will not end up in the mess a lot of you are now in.. Yes money is tight for us all. spend a little extra and it makes a world of difference to your on line experience.
I'm afraid you're wrong. JABathrooms does have a shop and has been running for years. It sells branded goods my bath for example is Ideal standard. I'm not stupid and as you sell on the internet and Ebay does that mean we shouldn't now trust you?

I have had some fantastic buys on the internet and I wouldn't let this put me off. However as I did then I research the company I'm buying from as far as is practical and I use a credit card/Barclays visa debit/Paypal where appropriate. I looked at my local shops and I saved 20-30% on the cost of bathroom fittings by going elsewhere. That is a considerable amount of money. Yes you sometimes get hassle but on the whole buying on the internet is hassle free and much cheaper.
  • Just an update for all you fellow sufferers. We are 50% there, our panel turned up, unannounced, last Wednesday and the wrong one taken back. We were told door was coming Thursday, it didn't. Managed to get to speak to someone on Saturday ( phone wasn't continually engaged) and were told Joe would ring us back, he did and promised delivery and collection of door today. Seems we're back to the same old lies, no delivery and no one will answer the phone, so your guess is as good as mine. Wish we had a van then we could just go and collect the thing. This service is totally diabolical, seven weeks since we told him order was wrong. Watch this space, no doubt it will just turn up, unannounced and get dumped on the drive.
  • Please can someone help me?

We ordered a bathroom suite from ja bathrooms and received a damaged bath and toilet seat they have replaced the bath although we still have the damaged one and still have not received toilet seat. Been down to see them several times but with no success. Went to consumer help and wrote them a letter sent it recorded but got no response. Consumer people have told me to contact citizen advice but can't get through to them. Please please can someone give me some advice on what to do next. We can't buy a new toilet seat from homebase as it will not fit please please help. Thanks

How long ago did you send the letter? If they have had a reasonable time to respond, the next step would be to issue a small claims action - you can do this online.
  • I wrote the letter back in may and gave them 10 working days to respond which was till the 12 June and not heard a thing. Could you tell me how I go about taking small claims action or how I find out how to do this

    Many thanks
  • DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I too have been a 'victim' of Mr Garnham's well practiced and dishonest sales tactics. I cannot believe he gets away with this after so many reports to Trading Standards/Citizens Advice. I ordered furniture, wc and sink for a utility room. They arrived after his 30 day promise dispite my request that the order only be delivered if it were complete which it wasn't...... I was told the day before it was complete, but when put in my garage the delivery man announced after he had finished that the toilet seat was missing! Do not trust this company.

It took a further 3 weeks to obtain the toilet seat which meant cancelling my plumber whom I had already put off due to the first delay. When unpacked, the wall unit was damaged and so was the mirror. The toilet cistern did not match the pan which made it impossible to fit, further costly delays for my fitter.

Mr Garnham has used a well worn tactic claiming this is a special order as he had to specially order it in! No, these are standard mass produced items.

Its a mess, you need tenacity and endless patience. I have extensive written history, reported it to TS and my credit card company. If this fails we will see Mr Garnham in court.
  • We eventually got our shower but only after I sent Joe an e-mail telling him what he was doing was tantamount to theft. I did not order our bathroom over the Internet - we went into the "show room" - we couldn't see anything we liked - apart from the taps - and we ordered everything from a brochure. We have just had our bathroom done and it would seem that our toilet and handbasin are seconds. He takes your money for the item you think you have ordered and you are getting a second. Our electric heating towel rail leaks - so we have to get another one. The bath was scratched - so we've have had re-coated. We have paid first class money for second class goods. He takes money by deception and I can say that because we have been duped by him. I am going to try to sue him personally. He is a good old fashioned con man. I almost forgot - once everything had been delivered I locked horns with him in e-mail over the taps - which we paid over £500 for and they are ex-display. His argument is - if there's nothing wrong with them what am I going on about!!! The point is - if I wanted ex-display - I would expect to pay ex-display prices.

As I work for solicitors I have downloaded from HM Land Registry the title to Joe's house as if I want to sue him I want to know that he owns something. I think you will find that Phoenix Woods or whatever they call themselves are going bust - or he has it so that it is difficult by you using the wrong name - is it Limited or not? Anyway he hasn't transferred the house into anyone else's name - so that may be of interest.

I would not use this kind of company ever again. We didn't just order off the Internet - we actually went in to the place. I haven't finished with Joe Garnham yet. I shall let you all know what steps I do take.

We did go to the "showroom" if you can call it that. We ordered branded goods from a brochure - Triton shower - McQ toilet (costing £349) and handbasin - but we have been delivered seconds. The whole episode has been terrible. We ordered beautiful taps that we saw and he actually delivered those ones - not even in a box but bubble wrapped from the display. The reason we have kept the goods is because as you will see from reading what everyone has said - we knew that we wouldn't get out money back or replacements. We didn't just order blindly - we went in there - we believed we were going to get the goods that we paid good money for and look what's happened to us. I just keep saying to myself - it could have been worse - they could have fitted the bathroom too!!!
