Yeah I'm aware that Ford are making theirs increasingly difficult to change, although I thought that was because they want to push more people into their authorised repair places. I know my 55 fiesta isn't too bad, but simila Focuses and Ka's are a lot harder, for no obvious reason.

seemingly its engineering compromises for the pedestrian safety design requirements
obviously they could design it out but its all costs.
how many new buyers use headlight fitment as a model decider ;)
  • I only passed my driving test 7 weeks ago and i get so annoyed with other drivers! granted i am not always the best, but stick to the speed limits go in the correct lane and so on. What annoys me most is drivers driving right up my ar£$. On my way to uni i drive on really bad roads i go as fast as safe and about 50-55 and they stick right behind me and never overtake when they can. Also speed cameras, seen so many people get caught, why not slow down! Now the roads are icy in the morning you would think other drivers would stay at a safe distance from other cars? but no they are right behind me.
  • I drive on the right hand lane on a dual carriageway on the way to work each day because of bad experiences trying to change lanes for a turning with nasty drivers who see my car but won't let me switch. Despite going at the speed limit I have drivers up my backside, which makes me feel bullied into speeding.

I understand that it's not cool to be in the right hand lane if you're doddery and slow, but this is an empty 50mph road and I never drop below the speed limit. Plus, I'm only on it for about 2 mins before my turning.

Oh and someone has scraped my front right hand corner while my car was in the car park at work. Really bad with red paint on it and everything. HOW is that possible? Very frustrating, I'm awful at manoevers (relatively inexperienced) but I prefer to go slow and take care than ram my car into a space. A driver annoyed at waiting for me to turn in is better than another arriving to a scratched car, right?

If it's empty then there's no need to stay in the outside lane so you won't get people up your backside.

I once had someone follow me off at the services and had a go at me despite me doing nothing wrong that I know of. She was unhappy with me going to fast in the middle lane, when I told her I was doing just over 70 but under 75 she said that was the problem. She went on to tell me that (In her exact words) "You're driving dangerously for people who stick to the speed limit. The inside lane is for driving up to 50mph, the middle lane for driving up to 60mph and the outside lane for driving at 70mph".

I told her she was talking rubbish and if that was her opinion of motorways then there's no way she should be driving on them.

Also is it neccessary for drivers to get impatient,
No, but it's human nature if someone is dawdling or not paying attention etc.

My real hate at this time of year is when people take an age to dip ther headlights. There'll be an incident every night where I'll be ablte to flash them with full beam again before they get the message. I don't understand why they are so surprised to encounter a car coming in the opposite direction, it's not like it happens 100s of times every day.
    Happy chappy

Sorry, late night posting. What I mean is the left lane is empty, the right lane has a lot of people on it due to wanting to turn right to get into the shopping park. That's why I go on the right, due to not being able to get in later on.

But since it's a 50mph road, people seem to take it as a free for all as you say if they're on the right, and chastise anyone going at 55 or lower.

Ahhh sorry about that. I thought you meant you just randomly drive in the right lane when there's nothing much else on the road :D

  • my pet hate is old folks driving *sorry* has to be said, today i seen an appaling peice of driving was driving down a single carrage way with NSL this old fella must been about 65+ was driving at 25 MPH or less maybe a que of cars god knows how long and everytime the way was clear to over take he would drive in the middle of the road near enough i would say driverside wheel the middle road lines were making overtakeing impossible coud he have done this on purpose? on roundabouts he would block both lanes by being inbetween them stopping at each one eventhough the way was clear and cutting both lanes on the roundabout to go straight on again practically useingthe whole road to drive down when an aproaching car was comeing would get over and the go back. then when we got into a 30mph zone at a set of lights it clearly stated on the marking before and on the lights that the left hand set of light was left only the right hand set of lights were ahead and right when they changed gues what he did? yes straight accross no indication just cut up the the car infront of me (i was praying to god that he was going left as the marking said so) and proceeded to travel at 15 mph then at a mini roundabout stayed in left hand lane i was turning right and so was car infront so we got in right hand lane guess what he did then yip we pulled off on roundabout only to discover he wanted same exit and wedged himself inbetween me cutting me up (did beep horn and flash me lights but didnt faze him he didnt even look in mirrors) and the car infront so i'm stuck behind him got to a shopping centre where he indicated left to go into car park then stopped in the road for no apperent reason and slowly and gradually pulled into the car park he had plenty of room and no other cars at the junction to turn in but he treated it like it was the smallest gap in the world to pull into the junction was big enough for a bus to park sideways in! a 15 min trip for me took 40 mins there were horns going left right and centre at him and flashing lights but he wasnt fazed at all and not once pulled over to let traffic go.

another one thing i hate is drivers with no break lights and when you inform them that their out the say "oh i know i just havent had the time to do them yet your about the 10th person whos told me this week"
  • OK then my pet driving hates:

    - People who indicate right at roundabouts even when they're going straight on to 'let people know they're not coming off at the first exit'.

    - People on the school run who will park anywhere - legally or not - if it will save them having to get out of the car or having to walk an extra 20 yards.

    - People who drive with their fog lights (front and/or rear) on when it's not foggy.

    - People who force their way into a queue of traffic and then refuse to let anyone else in in front of them.

    - People who leave their indicators on when driving on the motorway

    - White van drivers

There is a limit though, going 25 in a 30 means you won't fail your test I'm sure.

Bare in mind to fail, you would need 3 of these 'going to slow' minors, which is quite hard to do!

    I got a inappropriate speed minor for going 30 in a 30. ;)

    True, true :D

In the end it's down to appropriate speed. If it's a clear straight road, no blind bends, weather is good then they expect you to be doing the speed limit (or close to it). If it's pouring with rain and the road has lots of blind bends and cars parked up either side then they expect you to do less than the speed limit.
