• For me I could not buy something like a bed on ebay. I bought my bed from blt beds and I think we got the mattress from somewhere else though as theye werent the cheapest for that. There's loads of sites out there though so it's worth having a good look.

If you have back problems and you are on a limited budget, then I would suggest paying more for your mattress and getting a cheaper base (probably a divan).

I know a divan base wouldn't look as nice as the sleigh bed, but you really need support for your back. This would mean getting a pocket sprung mattress as a minimum requirement, as the support they give is far superior to open coil springs or foam only.

Hi, you have mis-read our post...

    From the bottom..
Both of us have no back problems

I know that many people are very wary about buying items like beds and mattresses from ebay. However if you follow a few guidelines then you can save up to 75% on the shop prices:

    1) most important of all make sure that the seller gives a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

    2) check previous feedback for the seller, and even contact previous customers to ask them about the seller. Also read all their negative or neutral feedback, but remember that a small percentage may be from Victor Meldrew types.

    3) make sure they have recent feedback (unused accounts with good feedback are sometimes hacked).

    4) make sure most of their feedback is for selling, and that it is for similar items to those you want to purchase

    5) use a company who display their phone number, so that you can talk to someone about your requirements (they want you to make the right choice because it will cost them if you return it).

    6) check the sellers return policy. Many sellers charge for postage on returns.....can work out very expensive if you have unpacked a vacuum packed mattress, and you don't like it.

    7) try to use a seller who delivers using their own transport. Couriers often damage or misplace goods (believe me I know from experience).

Obviously you can't try before you buy, but for the saving it is worth the risk if you follow the guidelines above.

    Hi Jimmy,

Look at the first link for the bed, its a solid mahogany sleigh bed used in a showhome. Ive asked what brand it, or where it was purchased but still waiting on the reply.

    As said above by Tim,

If we decide to purchase, we will ask as part of the terms is that its made up for us to view and take apart ourselves. Quality and any damage can be viewed.

Just this damn mattress to choose.

I wonder what Mrs Alias will come back with, though i remember an advert from a bedshop in the local paper listing advert with prices.

    Oops, sorry.

It is still more important to get the best mattress you can afford, rather than buying an expensive bed, and then just getting a mattress with the money you have left.

As a general rule you will pay far less for mattresses purchased from on line retailers. Just remember to make sure they have a satisfaction guarantee.

We tend to go round shops viewing stuff, then try to find it cheaper online.

Not very nice, but thats life..

The only problem with that method is that most of the high street stores sell mainly big brand names. I usually advise against big brand names as many of them have automated production and lowered quality to cut production costs.

If you buy on line from a seller who gives a satisfaction guarantee, then it is in their interest to make sure you make the right choice the first time.
