    Tuesday
    File paperwork

    Wednesday
Quick clean of fridge and make shopping list (Green box arrrives this day!)

moggins and everyone - what's on your daily must do lists please? Also, does anyone whose got children at home get through all this stuff in a day/week without bursting a gasket? I'd love to get organised with housework again but feel like I'm continually chasing my tail as have very limited time and children who seem to follw behind me leaving a trail of mess!!! I feel like i'm already doing housework for most of the day and children get little of my attention but the house is still messy/grubby. Any ideas? Maybe because I haven't got a "plan" I'm working inefficiently?

When you have small children at home simple is best i found especially as i have a child with special needs and physical disabilities who was in and out of hospital and very ill for most of his first couple of years. As long as the basics are done that is what really matters. I found that the constant mess/tidy up circle drove me mad and got me no-where, so instead i enjoyed my time with the children and as soon as they where asleep i ran around for about an hour doing the basics and getting something ready for the next day, before taking some much needed mummy time :D.

Then once a month they would go to their grandparents for several hours and it was then i would tackle a big clean, anything that needed doing before that OH always did for me.

You could also get them to help with some small chores, as soon as they can walk they can hold a sponge and have a go at cleaning some small marks or pick up some toys:D mine have always enjoyed helping and i think it teaches them alot.

Simple, productive and enjoy thats what i advise. Once they are at school/nursery you will have more time to get that bit more organsied.

If you go to Google and type in 'home management binder' you will get a load of american versions of this, some of them are very impressive although some are a little anal!

I always wanted to do one but thanks to Moggins have got my act together, and it is already really useful. In the front I have a small pencil case secured by a tag to one of the rings. In it I have a pen, stamps, pencil, sharpener, prit stick and cheque book. Have also today put in the pamphlet re new postage charges.

We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.

I have been peeking at this thread over the long weekend....and have decided to make a household manual as well. Ive downloaded all the forms and some tips from the flylady website. We're only a family of 2...me and OH but he is soooooo disorganised and doesn't quite complete tasks to my standard. i.e washes the dishes but doesnt clean the surrounding counter. Having detailed instructions -such as Moggins list will be a great help. I shouldnt be hearing anymore "I didnt know I should do that too" --- ah duh!Anyway wish me luck!

  • i will like the list for each room as i tend to flit from one task to another and then wonder why i don't complete one room. But i wondered how often you do the complete room clean? i also have 2 under 3 so both at home, but i agree with the point that i often spend so much time looking for stuff or ironing ad hoc that so much time is wasted - am hoping this changes me!!!
  • Thanks ladies:T

Have been trawling through MSE and putting off cleaning the cooker, doing the dishes and sorting out one box (storage) which I plan to take to a car boot along with a load of other stuff, so I'm going to sign off and go and actually do the cleaning.

I have loads of ideas in my head on the way to work in the morning but somehow they never transpire into action in the evenings.

    So long for now. :rotfl:

I wondered how people managed their financial part of the manual. I was thinking of having a monthly calendar where I would write in bills when they came in and when they were due. Then write in when they were paid. This is a big issue in my house as my husband sometimes forgets to mention that the gas bill came over a week ago. Alot of the stuff is direct debit but sometimes I feel like the left hand doesnt know what the right hand is doing. If there's any question either of us can head to the manual... Im so liking this already, its genius! I'd be interested to hear what other people do.

I'd love to see other peoples systems. Mine is a sort of amalgamation of things I've read all mixed around into what I need and what works for me so everybody will have different needs and I'd love to learn a thing or two from others ways of doing things.

Come on folks, if you have a system let us see it, it will help all the newbies too who may need some new ideas.

Hi Moggins I'm a newbie and this has definately given me the push to try and start my own journal, Thanks from Granny. :D
