You have to remember that the UK, especially England, is one of the least religious countries in the world, whereas the US has a high proportion of churchgoers, and the whole idea of frugal living for them is tied up with the frontiersman Protestant Work Ethic (the whole Parable of the Talents stuff etc) which is taken a lot more seriously in the US - so what sounds like odd religious stuff to us is pretty normal to most of them!'Never keep up with Joneses. I have just e mailed asking for a re show of the series as I feel it would have more appeal now for both economic and green issues. Lets hope we have some success.
I too subscribed to the Penny Pincher News by John and Irma Mustoe, very informative and I got loads of great recipes and craft ideas from them. I can recommend their book. Does anyone know what happened to them? They seemed to be such a lovely couple.

I'm glad I'm not the only sad person on here! My XOH used to laugh at me as my Penny Pincher News droppoed through the letterbox each month. He might well have laughed too, he was spending our money twice as fast as I could save it!!
Anyway, I only wanted to post to say I have the honour of having had a recipe published in the Penny Pincher News. Possibly my finest hour....:rotfl:

It was a recipe for Weetabix cake. I still make it now and then. Basically you soak three weetabix with brown sugar and dried fruit in mik overnight. Next day, mix it up with an egg and some s-r flour and bake it! Hey Presto! And it is low fat. It is also very forgiving of poor ingredients. You can use dried milk, not-so-fresh weetabix, any kind of dried fruit you have and if you have no muscovado sugar a spoonful of black treacle gives it a nice rich taste.
Mmmmmm...think I'll get one soaking right now!Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

I use that recipe! it's great! I also donated a recipe it was for gnocci and sugo (tomato sauce). Sadly I too was so proud to see it in print! Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.
