I used to use a (clean) cat litter tray when I had my old fridge/freezer. It fitted perfectly in the bottom to collect all the water and drips etc. when defrosting.
The freezer eventually kept defrosting at random ruining all my food and leaving puddles on the floor. I then bought a new one and the same thing happened. It was the plug that was faulty!!! So my top tip is always make sure your plug is working before giving up on an electrical item! It was so annoying, but as the freezer was about 12 years old, I just assumed it was worn out.:(Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

When I went to a country fair yesterday we met a man who grows mushrooms on top of old paperbacks [apparently doesn't work with the Yellow Pages though as the ink used kills them dead]!

Wow - what a programme - I can't actually remember watching it, but I do remember a lady who made her daughters tap dancing shoes out of tin cans (or something or other) and they had bought their 4/5 bed house (in America) by either trading things or bartering down the supplies and they had paid the whole house off - no mortgage or anything.

One of the reasons I like the Tightwad Gazette so much is that there isn't any religion in it.
I like to think you can have a faith without making everyone want to heave:rotfl:0 -

hi...thiftlady... ye totally agree....just because we are bikers dont mean that we are heethans.... we have a group of back patch bikers called the god squad...which are practising christians...and like bikes....they have a drop in centre in swansea.....but anyway back to the point.....i think religion is a personal thing... and you can have a quiet moment in thought or prayer...where ever or when ever... you dont have to push it down peoples throats.......
i have ordered the tightwad gazzette book for amazon, so hopefully that will turn up in a few days along with another book called how to survive without a salary....
so i will give a verdict on that book.... to let you know if it is good or not....Work to live= not live to work0 -

Hi CTC
Have a look at https://www.frugalliving.about.com. The girls on there are great and a mine of information. Mostly American gals, but they are really friendly and sure know how to make there money go further. It is also interesting to find out how they have just the same attitude to us, non-consumerism etc.
PS There are some Christians on there and the site host is a Christian but there's very little mention of religion. It's not all gung ho like some of the sites.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
