Scrimpers and Money saving?

This may end up on the discussion board, but I was wondering if anyone remembered the series on channel 4 (I think) called Scrimpers?

They were definitely old style. Using and reusing stuff to save money. I would love to see that programme again, or maybe someone coming up with a newer version. Maybe some of you ladies could be featured. Home made yoghurt, kefir grains, soap nuts, vinegar, re-using foil and containers etc. It would make for interesting viewing I think.

MMR was very good, but a lot of the people featured had quite a lot of money to start with, I would like to see the more bare bones budgeting on a programme.

Trouble is I might find it fascinating, but the rest of the consumerists types would never tune in!:)

I remember Scrimpers, it was a brilliant programme. Do you remember that single mum who had furnished her house out of things she'd found in skips? It was really relevant to us then as I was still with XDH and he had no pride

Ooh yes I remember this,it was brilliant.Wasn't it presented by Ray Brookes?

The tip I most remember is to strike a match to get rid of 'bathroom smells'.My downstairs loo is right next to the front door and the kids are always making it smell unpleasant! I keep a box of matches on a high shelf in there-works a treat.

There was also a feature on someone who made fantastic Christmas decorations out of loo paper - I seem to have a theme going here:rotfl:

I seem to remember a lady with a pantry full of reused jars or jams, pickles etc - I wish I had videod it but I think it might have been when videos were highly expensive items!

Do you remember the lady form Birmingham who tried to reuse everything? She had a room in her house full of 'stuff' like old shoes so that she could reuse the leather for shoe repairs? She reckoned on getting £1 of use out of every 50p spent.

There is a fine line between saving thing to be reused and just hanging onto stuff isn't there? I've got loads of jam jars too but I do use them.I try to only save what I know will be used.Once my jar cupboard is full I stop saving them.

I love money saving, but hate clutter. I would rather send things I don't use to a charity shop.

I am currently debating whether the value of re-using freezer bags merits the cost of the hot water and drop of w-u-l needed to wash them out.

My parents always had lengths of crinkled tinfoil hanging from their clothes airer, but I prefer to buy the Sainsburys economy wrapping foil for 24p (lasts me about a month) and put it in the recycling skip.

My motto on that one is life's too short...
