Good news Ruby!
My mother died 15 years ago to-day...in the room I am now sitting in as it was her bedroom for the last few weeks of her life....still hurts, my father had died in the October of the same year and it was definitely the worst Christmas of my life....still they wouldn't want me to moan, so sorry all.
Nice and sunny here to-day but getting colder, washed my living room curtains to-day and hope that it wont rain to-night as I have left them out, will iron them to-morrow and re-hang, it seems as if the whole world passed our house since it got dark...you can't see in from the road but we see all the cars.
Should be going to Rockferry, Liverpool next Thursday for the funeral of one of my father's cousins, she was 92 and hasn't been well for some time so it has been expected. May not go as it will cost quite a bit in time and cash neither of which I can really afford so near to Christmas, know that I will feel guilty if I don't...we'll see.
Who said that they made their Christmas cake to-day? So did I and I think it is ok, I used a Mary Berry recipe. Have put the fruit to soak in brandy for the pudding which will be done to-morrow, would be nicer if I had made it weeks ago but I didn't so it will have to do! Still got mince pies to make, these are solely for myself as nobody else is keen so they are vital to Christmas goodies.
No tree here yet, will get it next week, bit apprehensive as to how the cats and dog will react...no babies around this year so it will be an animal free for all I think.
Celyn....what a lot of talent you have! I can knit, crochet and (badly) make clothes, but would never be able for the minute stuff you do, nor have I ever tried felting....would like to get rid of some of OH's jumpers, maybe accidentally putting them in a hot wash would be a way to start. Congratulations on the wrap, it is beautiful.
Hugs to all, stay warm,

Well I've just had an eventful hour.
There was a loud bang in the communal hallway so I looked out the peephole and saw someone trying to break down the door of the flat opposite me! It looked like the guy who lived there but I wasn't 100% sure. I was debating whether to call the police or not when he stopped and went outside. He came back few mins later and started again! I had just gotten in shower but could hear the banging over noise of shower. I showered, and when I got out I peeked again and the door was ajar and their dog was running out. The guy ran after the dog and called it by it's name and went down few flights of stairs and collected it so I realised it was the more than likely the guy who lived there.
5 minutes later there was a knock on my door. I looked through the peephole and there were 2 policemen outside. I opened door with security bolt on and they asked to come in. I asked to see their badges. One just pointed to the word 'police' on his jacket!! The 2nd officer showed me his badge so I let him in and made the other one stay outside. He asked if I was okay and that they had had a report of a disturbance on the floor (there are only 2 flats on each floor). I work very closely with the police in my job, I work with lots of young offenders and currently have a policeman seconded to me as my assistant in work, so my address is recorded as one to check if there is a disturbance IYKWIM! I explained it was next door where there was the disturbance. He thanked me and said he would check next door. As I opened the door to let him out the guy opposite was standing looking at his broken door. They had chat with him for awhile. But all must be ok as next door is not drilling his lock back together!
Now I reckon next door are going to think that it was me who called the police! So do I say anything or not? I don't know them (a couple live there), they rarely even say hello if we pass on stairs. I don't want them to think it was me though.
I'm knackered now, so going to headd to bed.
Goodnight all

There are different reasons for attending a funeral. Would it be possible to go somewhere local that is beautiful and tranquil at this busy time of year, away from all your stresses and strains, so that you can have a really nice quite reflect on the happy times you had with your dad's cousin? Maybe you could use part of what you would have spent on the trip with a donation in her memory, most of the time families keep flowers to a minimum and happpy to receive a donation.
If your reason is to say 'hello' to some of the family, it would be easier to spend time with them if you weren't on a flying visit when everyone is busy and has their heads full of Christmas, funeral and other stuff. This way you would see them and the money on travel would be better used.
