Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Friday 11th December. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Redruby hon - all fingers and toes crossed that you get the call you want today. It's making it hard to type but you are worth it.

Still crossed.. !
Tired mum - so sorry to hear about your dads friend.. it's no age at all.
Bitsy - I am used to him wandering into the lounge naked to get a clean towel or some clothes out of the airing cupboard, so it was really only the sunglasses that were the surprise!!
Stefj - congrats on becoming an aunty again.. Tahlullah Pixie is an interesting name - are you by chance related to the Geldofs at all?giggle.gif
Essexgirl - I loveeeee Paperchase.. in fact I love anywhere that sells stationery.
mummysaver - I am with your daughter here, I can't abide anything oily on my salad..
Haribo - Hope you are Ok and get the appt resceduled.
Hester - Way to go girl! Very impressed, but next time, don't let yourself get to screaming pitch before you say something, and that will save yourself a lot of work!
Lowesy - hope I didn't make the laptop fritz.. :p

Spoke to Tristan briefly yesterday. He is not feeling too good but then that is to be expected. He asked me to sing to him so I sang for about 15 mins til he felt sleepy enough to rest.

xmastree.gif Had my first birthday card today. Am not looking forward to Monday especially as I have a hospital appt that day too. Keep hoping a card will arrive from my mother and nephews but not really expecting it.

xmastree.gif Am going to have a go at making mulled wine jellies today as it sounds nice and easy. I love mulled wine at Christmas. Lunch will be butternut squash soup for the OH and sandwiches for me and for dinner some pork chops, curry glazed butternut squash and some roasties.

I hope everyones Friday is the very best it can be, and that anyone feeling poorly feels better soon. With love and light for all.

No rain for a change! Last day of mu course, early finish and then 3 weeks off.... :j
First I have to do lunches and then drive to Exeter, but that should not be too bad.
Had a good meal out last night, school governors thing. Tonight nothing planned, so may be Eden again, ice skating, or fire and glass of wine....

    Have a good day.

    Cheers

  • Morning all, very frosty and white here in North Kent, Jack Frost was nipping my toes so I got up and made a hot drink then decided it wasn't worth going back to bed.I have a busy day here today.First breakfast to make for DGD then the school run followed straight away to an appointment with the therapist for my lymphodema massage. Then a trip up to the sorting office for my son-in-law as he has a meeting this morning and he wants me to pick up one of DD's birthday presents from there. Then home for lunch ,whoppsied salmon salad and new herby potato's I bought from Sainsbobs last night .A real bargain at 40p then off to college for the last history for this term. Then home at 4.30 to have an early dinner as I have to take DGS to youth club for 6.30.Whew, then I can come home and put my feet up.Tomorrow I am off out to Dartford, after taking the new puppy to the vets for her shots for my DD as she is working. My friend in Dartford is laying on a Lunch to celebrate her 65th birthday, for around a dozen of her pals that have known her for years so I won't get back from there much before 5.00.It's all go in my house this week.
best news of alll was my eldest DD who phoned last night to say that my DGS Danny had one the top prize in his college year for his Media Studies. He is chuffed that his efforts have been rewarded and he will go to a special ceremony in January at his old college
I am so pleased for him as he will start full-time at Endamol in the New Year.
Today he is filming with his pal at my DDs school, they are making a DVD for prospective parents. My DD works at a special needs school, and the DVD will show parents how the school can help the children, and what they do there. Danny and his pal Ed won't get paid for making it, but its excellent experience for them both. Well time to get a wriggle on, I hope everyone has a good day and stays wrapped up warmly
    Cheers JackieO xx

    Morning :hello:
In my calendar - a gift basket :snow_grin
Go Hester :D Just read yesterday's post - fabulous :T Keep it up :D

It's foggy here. I love this weather, might walk to town today instead of using the car. Then a trip to the Plumb Centre for some pipe, then we'll be fitting the new radiator.

Didn't realise mr tru wanted to watch the Half Blood Prince, so we'll make a load of food then sit down to watch it. I thought it was jumbled and didn't tell the story at all, and where will Bill's wedding be held now that the Weasley's house has burned down? That didn't happen in the book. Pah

Hester - that would certainly make life more interesting...:rotfl::rotfl:
Tru - I didn't enjoy the film quite as much as I expected to either.

Good morning. It's cold & frosty here too but warming porridge is made & will be eaten by myself, DS2 & DS3 soon. DD is off college today so I'll leave her to sleep for a while & DS1 isn't in until 10am so no point waking him up yet.

Lunch today is soup & some cheese scones and dinner is a HM pizza & garlic bread. I have lots of toppings so make 2 large pizzas and top each 3rd with everyones choice so we all get our own favourite things on it :D Saves arguments & flicking bits off that aren't liked!

I'm going to finish a Christmas cross stitch project this afternoon & this morning will be the usual washing, tidying & hoovering round.

Diva Glad you have spoken to Tris :A

JackieO Well done to Danny :T that's brilliant.

Tru I'm another one who didn't like this last Harry Potter film much. I am a fan of the books too & have read them all outloud to the children who loved it & used to sit enthralled. Even DD who was 16 when we read the last one together. I have bought the film for DS3's stocking though as they have all the others.

Hester Way to go :j:jJust a shame it has to get to that point before anything is done.

Bitsy & HeavenLeigh How are the littlies? Better I hope and raring to go :D

Have a good day all. I'm going to roast my christmas lunch potatoes today ready for freezing & do the parsnips & carrots too. I watched Kirstie's Homemade Christmas last night & enjoyed it even though none of it was money saving, it was just nice viewing. The turkey looked lovely with bay leaves pushed under the skin.

    Morning all,

Diva, thanks for keeping your fingers crossed, i hope its today we hear, my nerves cant take much more of this

Hester :T:Twell done you, I can imagine that you are not the type to take too much s**t :D

Jackie, well done to Danny, great achievment :T, and the new puppy sounds lovely xx

Off to work again today, and the never ending wait for a phone call , this weekend will be spent packing more bits and bobs, and having a good clear up.

Dinner tonight will be the quiche which was not eaten on Wed, with new pots and sweetcorn. I think I will get dd to cook it.

I had words with my mum last night, its a very long story, but basically my dad is getting more and more confused, he is seeing a Dr, and they dont think its dementia, but its as a result of him tipping back off his chair whilst at lunch here and banging his head. Now mum keeps jumping down his throat every time he speaks, and puts him down continually, treating him like a child. last night she tried to get me to back her up in an argument against him, and I flipped :o, its horrible to see it, and I hate to say it but she is bullying him, I have asked her time and time again to treat him with a bit more respect, but she is just treating him like a child , anyway I have to go there this morning, so we will see what the atmosphere is like  sorry off topic there, but its worring me :o

    Have good days all xx
  • Morning All

Another day of a bt of everything today, need to phone my PC man as laptop had a blue screen this morning  also need to pop out to Howdens and get prices for a couple of bits for the garage. Must make a start on Xmas cards and want to get stuffing balls and sausage rolls made today. However I ordered a few bits from Lakeland including some Lock & Lock container so hope they arrive today.

Will wrap dnephews Birthday pressies oh and just remembered that I need a giftcard to send to OH's sister for her birthday.

    Morning all

Redruby - sorry to hear about your mum & dad hugs to you

Foggy and chilly here, but feeling good this morning, seem to only had a light cold and although didn't actually feel ill feel better now.

Had quite a productive day yesterday, WM now working and it sounds better than it has for about 6+ months, so have been washing, drying and ironing. Did manage to get housework done too, so now just need to finish washing and ironing and strip beds and wash that bedding.

Had very nice dinner last night, sausages, new pots, cauli and broccolli cheese, carrots, peas and green beans - washed down with a nice chilled glass of Pinot Grigio! Tonight will be either gammon for everyone or chicken kiev for OH, DS1 and DS2 with fish pie for me - haven't decided yet but neither require too much effort - Friday night is my easy night.

Will do food shopping today, after dropping DS1 at my mum and dad's - he has no school today as they have target setting day and we just have to go in for an appointment for 15 minutes to see his form tutor. He wouldn't want to come shopping with me so thought it would be a good opportunity for him to spend some time with dad, he's not able to drive until this weekend/Monday after his hospital procedure on Tuesday so hope seeing DS1 will help him with the boredom etc!

Christmas shopping really coming along now, my wine order arrived last night so now have lots of alcohol in the house, just have to be good and not drink too much of it before we get to Christmas.

Went to the scales yesterday and to my amazement I stayed the same, how on earth I managed to do that I have no idea after the large quantity of alcohol I consumed last weekend also had a very small slice of choccy birthday cake - but have been very good since so possibly just balanced itself out - (or could be that OH helping me as he likes my new curves/shape hence had a few early nights in our house!!!) Sorry if its TMI this early!

Have to go now, keep safe and well, hugs to those that need them.

    morning everyone :)

i am trying to jump back on the o/s wagon after falling off quite a while ago!

i have started with my cooking, as food seems to be where most of my money (and waste) is.

yesterday i made some wholemeal rolls, some muffins and some coconut bread which were all really nice, and meant i didnt need to buy any bread or sweets for my bf, who stayed with me last night :j

one question which i hope someone can answer- the muffins didn't look very muffiny- more like fairy cakes, and bf said they didnt have the consistency of muffins either- i don;t know what i did wrong?:confused:

hope everyone has a lovely day
