Banks should provide a service. When they stop providing the service you require it's time to move elsewhere
  • Have just read to the end of this thread [time on my hands!]. I was issued with a YB Mastercard in December last year. I thought there might be problems with a new type of card, and after looking at this forum, decided to take it up with YB. To their credit they cancelled the new card, allowing me to continue on Maestro. But their HQ has just advised me that the Maestro card is due to expire and I shoukld activate the [now destroyed] Mastercard.

I've written to my branch to request another Maestro, as I'm not persuaded that the 'teething problems' with Mastercard have been resolved. And the new card gives me no advantage at all - I have had no problems with Maestro whatsoever.

I'll report back on the outcome.
  • Hi

Just a quick question I have the new debit Mastercard, if I use it online and pay in USD will I have to pay the £1.50 Fee.

I have a Steam account for buying games it uses a UK website and displays prices in pounds and pence, but it is a US company will there be a fee for using this also.

    Thanks in advance

I recently opened a Metro Bank account. They issue a Mastercard debit card which I have used in several stores, both online and offline, without any problems.

After reading this thread I expected a problem in Aldi and Lidl since they do not accept credit cards - so if my card was being incorrectly flagged as a credit card I fully expected them to reject it. This didn't happen. The till receipts correctly identify that it is a debit card.

Just checked what the till receipt says about my Metro Bank Mastercard Debit card:

    Card Type: Mcard retail dr

There is further info like AID, APP PSN, Cryptogram, MID and EFT but I haven't a clue what these mean.

Think you'll find that Lidl and Aldi now accept credit cards.:T

One of them - can't remember which - only allows credit cards in its Scottish branches, so I overheard the cashier telling a customer who attempted to use her credit card.

Nope; Lidl & Aldi both accept cr. cards here in Cardiff - AFAIK we are not part of Scotland!!:rotfl:
  • hmmmm...........wonder in it's just in England that Lidl and Aldi refuse credit cards?

They both accept Credit Cards in Scotland & Wales, although this Wikipedia entry suggests that this is a trial as far as Aldi is concerned.
