I'm pretty certain that using Paypal postage costs more than using the post office.

No it was the same price, I weighed the item and checked the price on the royal mail website first. The prices were the same.

Hi everyone, i have been listing dvd's on ebay for £2.99 and £4.99 for a box set with free p & p and havent been charged a listing fee for these HTH as I always thought it had to be a starting price of 99p for free listing.

I think ebay have a promotion on at the moment on media listings so no fees up to £4.99 starting price. I think it is mitigation for the introduction of the zero post price (i.e. they probably noticed listings of low value media falling off a cliff and introduced the offer to tempt people back). Not sure of the details of the offer or when it ends, so watch out ... I am sure when they have a number of people used to listing media again the fees will slide back in. It's fun when you get the pleasant surprise of no fees though isn't it :).

Massive positive vibe on here today, really cheered me up after a demented and frustrating morning. Thanks everyone and keep up the good work :)

    hello all,

off to a good start today i hope.

can anyone help me with how to keep track of my money tht i make for this challenge please?

my plan was just to work out of the one account but i'm gettin mixed up with my challenge money and what i get from my job. i know i wont save nearly as much if i dont separate it. i have an isa, would that be the best place to put my challenge money until it reaches the limit? also, is there a really foolproof spreadsheet that i could use? i am absoloutely useless at them but i think i'm going to need something to keep track of it all.

A number of people are setting up a separate instant saver account to put funds in and out of. Short term I have set up a little petty cash tin to put everything into (whilst the numbers are small and I want access to it in case I see an opportunity) and will use a little petty cash slip book (small notepad will do) to link expenditure to receipts where appropriate. I would think that a combination of petty cash and bank account perhaps along with paypal account etc will end up being used. The important thing is to record things and be disciplined.

Has anyone got a handy spreadsheet that they are using for this challenge and wouldn't mind sharing?

Not yet ;) ... I am just starting to get my head around something ... the problem is that it is unlikely to be a one size fits all kind of problem. I used to have a really slick ebay spreadsheet when I used the site a few years ago, but everything has changed in terms of fees etc. so it is back to square one for that and Amazon etc.

If I come up with something that might be useful to others I will of course make it available ... no promises at this point as my head is only just beginning to play with it ;)

Edit: How did your 12 minute morning go ;)

Huge Thanks to the person who posted the fatfingers website, I am going to order some bits off ebay from it, about £10 it will cost me and hoping if I sell each item for £5 plus p&p I will make a small but nice profit.

If it works I will keep doing this for a while!

on the top left of the fat fingers website you will also see a link to watch count which is really useful too, if you are selling an item you can check and see listings with the most watchers, you'll see what i mean if you give it a try.

Fantastic skintbint! Of course you can keep it up!

This is the toughest time of year to make money, in my opinion, and we are coming up to Blue Monday, a date in January when post-Christmas gloom is at its worst.

It is worked out with a formula taking into account six factors: weather, debt, time since Christmas, time since failing our New Year's resolutions, low motivational levels and the feeling of a need to take action.

So if January can be a positive month, it will set a really good pattern for the rest of the year.
I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.
