Whenever i've ever listed anything on Ebay, it never sells. That's anything, books, DVDs, a car... Also whenever i go on to Ebay to see what's selling, nothing ever really seems to have any bids on it. I've only ever sold one book - for about 99p i thnk and i made nothing on it really after searching out packaging, going to the post office... it really wasn't time well spent. I would love to be like you guys and feel some buzz from seeing my things sell on Ebay but don't really know where to start. I've done research to check out that i'm marketing my stuff in similar ways to other stuff that has sold. What are people selling? When i look around my house, there's only really books, DVDs and possibly some clothes but none of those are going to make much money and i'm worried that if i go down the Ebay route, i'll end up making a loss.

Sorry to sound negative - you're all doing so well, keep up the good work and thank you for your inspiring ideas xx
    Just £10,852.28p to go...

    :D

    Trust that little voice in your head that says "Wouldn't it be interesting if...";
    And then do it.

Have you considered Amazon marketplace for selling books and cd. You can set the price rather it been ab auction so you'll either get what you want for it or it just wont sell less risky than ebay.

I have made over £100 on ebay since New Year. I listed some playstation games and nintendo DS games which my kids don't play anymore. I think that many people bought game consoles for Christmas and are looking for cheap games at this time. I sold some of the games for more money than I actually paid for them when bought. So maybe try the games.

  • OK, I'm getting myself organised for this challenge, will be spending the morning sorting through my wardrobe and photographing stuff for ebay then in the evening getting onto ebay to get packaging supplies.

Has anyone got a handy spreadsheet that they are using for this challenge and wouldn't mind sharing?
  • I printed a recorded delivery postage label from paypal but aparently I still need to go to the post office to get the orange sticker with the track and trace number (grrr so what is the point in even bothering to buy postage through paypal?) does anyone know if buying postage online from royal mail website is any different?
  • Ok so i think i have finally made a plan and know how im going to approach this challenge!!

After signing up to this challenge last night i told OH the plan of action worked out my finances etc

The last few months have been really stressful for us, i went from part time employed to a full time unemployed student shortly followed by OH who went from full time employment to a part time employed full time student which soon changed to full time unemployed student.

Trying to get our benefits has been a nightmare! HB/CTB took 9 weeks to finally get right and the jobcentre point blank refused us JSA as we are full time students despite having 3 children to feed!

All this then led to bills and debts not being paid off! Luckily OH has a part time job again and im going to start avon soon and am in process of applying for ALG which will all go towards getting rid of these horrible niggly lil debts.

    My plan of action is:
    1. get house organised
    2. quit smoking (dont want to smoke anymore nor can i afford it)
    3. catch up on coursework
    4. start ebaying
    5. start avon
    6. PRIORITISE!!

    a. House/kids
    b. Coursework
    c. Ebaying/Avon/Car booties
    d. plan making/mse
    e. Facebook

    My rules to me:

    1. stop allowing myself to get distracted
    2. stop making excuses
    3. stop wasting time (i write "plan of action" lists and thats as far as it gets)
    4. Start taking control
    5. stick with this thread til the end

I am going to make money by ebaying/carbooting and making my £100 this way to then spend on bulk buy or whatever i fancy to resell. Any over time from OH and any extra income over X amount that i set myself from Avon. Any unexpected income i.e from tax credits. Shop smart, collect points, buy whoopsies, menu plan etc. Use cash back sites and do daily clicks etc Reduce my outgoings and check if i can get cheaper energy suppliers. make gifts for b.days and xmas possibly lil baskets of reduced items from avon and not over spend on my children this yr. They hav everything a child could possibly need and more and i often waste hundreds of pounds on toys that get broken or lost at the bottom of the toy boxes. They do however desperately want to go to butlins so perhaps il swap the vast number of toys for a holiday instead.

really sorry for the really long post, just wanted to make my plan "official" so that i cant back out lol

the only one who gains is paypal;) as you still have to take it to the post office, and hte person behind the counter has to weigh it and check hte right postage has been paid ect, and htey dont get paid for that,

I personally go to the post office to all the postage things etc, plus this is helping the local post offices stay open...

Problem is I wanted to buy postage online as it is still very snowy and icy out and I keep slipping. It's a good 15 min walk to the post office but if I had postage and could put the item in the post box it would be better as the post box is much nearer. Also just realised at it's Saturday the post office closed at 12pm :(

I'm pretty certain that using Paypal postage costs more than using the post office.
