koshma - i wouldnt give the buyer the choice about the boxes, best to have one option so the buyer knows up front what they getting and no confusion.

thanks cally6008, maybe if i just treat them as 2 seperate listings then, keep one in box with description stating in box and the higher postage cost for that, then list a seperate item, no box in picture or description but at a much cheaper postage rate? that way see whihc out of the 2 has most interest/sales and perhaps stick to that? sounds like a plan?
Thanks to all who post comps :T

Great post kosma1. I think you are right to separate income from personal sales from those relating to invested money for the purposes of tax ... just lump them together for this challange (if that makes sense). Really impressed with how much progress you have made already. Dipping your toe into a few different areas to test them out whilst looking for your niche and upping your knowledge is definitely the way to go. Keep up the good work :).

my very first venture at making money was a good few years ago, at the time, i invested say £800 in ex stock from freemans, based in peterborough, they had advertised on a website, one box was a selection of jeans, they included calvin klein and tommy hilfiger, had approx 10 different types of jean and normally about 10 of each type of jean, same with tops, a box of about 10 different styles/sizes, and each style/size had about 10 each, i had planned to use them in party plan, did one or two parties with friends family but realistically, unless i had a lot more to invest, to expand range quite a lot, was not going to take off, these items ended up selling on ebay, some jeans that at the time were very fashionable, sold very well, in 18+ sizes, think i dropped lucky with a nice cut/fashionable jean to which one buyer told me was really pleased as fashionable jeans were hard to come buy after a certain size? i did sell all items, and made money back with i think approx £500 profit, it was a long time ago so not sure of exact figures, however, just sharing it as others may feel eventually they may like to invest in this type of thing, i may again in the future if i get a decent amount saved up, and also the comment about larger items may be useful, would still need to research though as this was a few years ago
Thanks to all who post comps :T

Larger sizes, worth remembering that the average size in the uk at the moment is about a 14 to 16..... so personally if I was going down the ebaying clothes route I would go that way rather than skinny. Depending on the clothing of course!!!

Good point with relation to larger sizes ... my Mum was a fashion designer and used to grade clothes completely differently for larger sizes (she also bespoke made for individuals, but that is a whole different kettle of fish) ... many brands, particularly in the past just upscaled their pattern blocks and it didn't necessarily lead to flattering tailoring. There are more options for people of different shapes and sizes now but it is still an area with alot of potential for a well targeted offering.

  • I have just ordered some plus size clothes to sell on, so I will let you know how it goes, should be delivered at the end of next week. Being plus size myself I find Ann Harvey/Evans etc so expensive, and they just churn out the same styles year after year just in different colours.!!

Mind you I can never find size 7 boots, 16/18 clothes or my bra size in those shops either. It seems that a lot of the population are 16/18...............

    Any designers out there??
