Wow - how inspiring, yes I'd definitely like to sign up. Can this be done realistically with a full time job? I'd be interested to know if John does this full-time or works too - do tell!

Wish me luck guys! Taking £100 out of my cloting budget for the year to start running with this!!

I am doing something similar re selling things to raise a stake. As for books, I have been listing mostly on Amazon but their fees are considerable ... you only pay if you sell though and they transfer your money without fee (after 14 days the first time). It really depends on the book whether it is worth listing. I have a couple listed that are around the cheapest on there at £60+ but they may take a while to sell as they are pretty specialist.

Others I refuse to list for pennies or a few pounds as they are far too good and valuable for their knowledge ... can't bring myself to do it for a potential 30 pence or so ... it would be like a sacrilege ;). Still trying to think of other ways of selling them, but if there are any I don't want, that are not worth anything, they are heading off to the charity shops or friends, so that someone else can enjoy them.

    Thanks eyesparky.
I'm not entirely keen on selling some of mine either - its a bit like clothes, never know when you might need them. But then, I havent used them up til now so I have to be ruthless. Unfortunately I dont have anything that will sell in the tens, let alone £60! Might have to have a re-think about how i'm going to sell them. If i'm only going to get pennies (or even 1p) from amazon I may as well take them to a carboot, at least i'll get maybe 10p!

I agree, by the time amazon or ebay and paypal have had their fees and the postage is paid it really is better to car boot them or recycle them through a charity shop. Amazon seems to be a pretty slow market so not a place to quickly turn over stock ... not the sort of books I have anyway. I might not have any books worth £60 either ... they haven't sold yet ... but I won't be parting with them for a penny ;).

Doing some research on Amazon, there are books on there which are huge selling for 1p, so I can't even see how they are doing it with postage rates what they are (unless they do significant bulk and have a one size fits all deal with a courier). All interesting though and I have found some great bargains to buy whilst looking (I know, I am supposed to be selling, but it is an addiction :)).

  • I’ve spent all morning reading this thread and feeling very positive, please could you add me to this challenge? I’m aiming for £5,500 to go into my savings... I’ve got plenty of time on my hands as I work as a model and although it pays well the work and pay isn’t regular, and sometimes I just get paid in clothes or photos for my portfolio, which is nice but doesn’t pay my heating bills! I’ve got bag full of clothes to get myself started on and will be opening a instant access savings account soon...

I'm so just sat on my hands brimming over cos I got an idea that might take off (and it might not). Argh, frustration at not having the ££ right now to do it. I know I could set it up for free and use that as a trial but it wouldn't be the same.

**Sigh**, its really disheartenung when I am trying my best to make/save money for a house deposit and the OH is spending it likes it going out of fashion. Had a major row about it at the weekend and he said he would stop but guess what ?? He hasn't. Grrrr!

Sorry to offload, just really annoyed.

    On a more positive note:
Anyone from up near central Scotland?

I agree, its really hard if one of you is trying desperately to save and the other is spending all that saving. When 'ahem', I start filling my 10k pot, i'm going to keep it a secret, or at least not shout to HO about it...maybe a bit naughty but you gotsa do whats you gotsa do...and it'll be money I didnt have anyway so won't be missed...then i'll take the pot with me when I go to Italy or four weeks to study teeheehee :D

Welcome ... I am sure scrooge2008 will be along at some point to add you to the list. Occasionally getting paid in clothes should help with getting you some quality stock to sell and you will likely be able to have your ear to the ground for when designers are selling sample stock or clearing end of season lines to create space ready for their new collections. Good luck with the challenge :)
