I'd love to set up a small website selling personalised crafty items, just need more info on how to do it as I can only do the very basic sites!

  • Dont waste you time with that som247 web site is a crappy ebay web site that has very few auctions, no contact details and the few auctions that are available are in dollars.

this might help some people with ebay and p+p charges - I've got a spreadsheet set up for p+p prices starting from 0g going to 1kg (i think) and it has which countries are EU for europe postage and the price for worldwide postage as well. I add 75p on for packing (some might say too high but not had complaints as yet) and some of the prices have this added on.

I'm willing to send it to people if they want it, it opens up in excel 2007 and excel 2000 (i think)

i'm not joining this oo-ja-what-dya-call-it .. task, no, event, no, challenge thats the word, lol, as i'm doing my own mini thing

    Cally, I;ve pm'd you.

Envelope stuffing is normally done by machine nowadays - I dont know of any genuine opportunities now.

I have emailed quite a few people info on how to prepare leaflets to market your own business. However there is a flip side to this - leaflet distribution. If anyone is interested in setting up a business distributing other peoples leaflets, I have some info on this as well.

Soaps - there is a great info guide on the net about this but I cant find it. Every single ingredient needs to be listed on labels for h&s reasons. Not sure what else, but thats the main thing.

Lush ( the factory is local to me - I used to work there and got all the seconds - best job ever !) was created by a disgruntled employee of Cosmetics to Go. They took the 'secret' recipes and set up a competitive company. And have done blumming well. So it is very popular and I see a lot of bath bombs sell at boot fairs.

Candles do well too - you can make melts quite easily which you can package lovely and make a profit.

skintbint - can you make nice birthday cakes ? Lots of high street shops have closed and we can only get rubbish ones from the main supermarkets. Have you looked at postage of cakes? I wanted to set up a cheesecake mail order company years ago after reading of the success in USA. I chickened out, but several companies did set up and are still going - pants !

david69 - our local car boot would definitely love old car and bike mags - if you do one and go over the top with talking to customers, you can find out quite easily what sort of things people buy. We have a couple of people who look for car mags, some look for war stuff, some gold, some pin badges, some broken mobiles etc.. If you take your tat one week, then you can work out what stuff to take for the next. And get an idea of what price they are willing to pay.

£100 initial investment - if you are looking to sell purely on ebay, a decent camera is needed. I got a 10 megapixel one on bid tv last month for £32. I also bought a light cube so I can take professional looking photos - I think this was £20. So for £50 ish you can set yourself up and then sell stuff already in your house. Then with the profits, you can buy more stock. Or you could advertise to sell other peoples stuff on ebay and take a percentage of the profits.

There is a great basic website for £18 as well. This includes all hosting fees for the year - no other costs. So if anyone is thinking of setting up a basic website to include their details etc.. please PM me. You can link paypal up to accept payments too. I had about 8 of them at one stage. I have 2 now I think which I can give you the address of if you want to see it in action.

I have a Chinese wholesaler address if anyone is interested. Not the greatest prices, but the company holds the money until you receive your order then forwards it to the seller. So its more secure than some companies. I tried a few orders of £100, then used them for £2k and it was all ok.

I have a random list of possible business ideas as well if anyone is truly stuck for an idea.

wow money... you are veritable mine of information!!! I have pm'd you.....

Okay, I've had a think and so far I have come up with............

    - sell veg plants at carboots. I was thinking of unusual variaties such as black toms etc as well as bog standard veg plants. I have two greenhouses (yet to be erected!) and grow my own anyway so this will hopefully be a nice little earner in the right season.

    - sweets at carboots. I thought alongside the plants I can sell pre packaged sweets. I plan to buy wholesale in bulk and then split into smaller bags and sell already sealed. I wouldn't fancy buying pick and mix style at carboots with flys and such like in the summer

    - trading in ebay. I;m a bit cautious about buying from overseas like china but it might just be the way to go. For now I will concentrate on buying sale items, glitches etc and then selling on.

    - I am still looking into opening a shop on ebay and maybe a website selling piercing jewellery. Not high value items but my reasoning is that I know a bit (having a few piercings myself) and that its mainly younger people, students etc that will spend money on things like this and they tend to have a higher disposable income. Any advice, ideas welcome!

With the car boots, if I can I will have a trawl around for bits to put on ebay, but I live in rural north devon which is not the best for finding hidden gems......

Well, I think thats it for now.....

I welcome any comments, advice good or bad!!

well then ! I've bitten the bullet and spent my £100, well £120 actually. No offence to anyone but I don't want to tell you what it is/they are at the moment. Enough to say that they are (what I think anyway) a good buy at £30 each in postage and are on ebay for about £50 - £70 ish.

    Watch this space.
