I need a bit of advice, maybe just someone to tell me if I should do this or not.

I signed up to be a Barefoot Books online seller some time ago, but have only made a couple of sales through my website. I have not really promoted it.

There is an excellent sale on at the moment and I can get a 50% discount off the sale prices if I order more than £375.

So, my question is this: do I invest in some (cheap / discounted) books and then sell them on ebay or Amazon, hopefully to make a profit.

I have never done this before, and I would have to risk spending around £180.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

  • Whenever I have looked at packaging/catering supplies a company called RyePac has always been the cheapest I could find they might do jam jars I hope this helps :)

Right I've signed up to DooYoo have just about fathomed it out I guess its courtesy to read and rate peoples reviews if they've done yours? I have 3640 points is that good|! I couldn't find anything anywhere that gave the point to cash ratio

I signed up to playtrade 4 days ago I've had 2 sales and another 10 dvd's to list

I don't think I'll include this in my 10k total though as they were already in the house though i will include dooyoo not that i made it out of £100 but its something i wasn't doing before. Though I do have to rack my brains for things to review! my username is the same on here as it is there.

I still have my full £100 to spend though have 3 pairs of the littlewoods £1 jeans to flog on as they didn't fit so will use them i think so i'm on minus £3! Was not impressed by the car boots last weekend and now can't get out to go charity shop hunting!

I've got all my card making stuff out but my lil 2 yr old loves messing all this stuff up its been out for 2 nights now and I've not managed one card, now i've taken this challenge its a bit like i have writers block to making money lol!
  • Well done all. i can assure you that this can be done as I have done it every year for the past 5 years. I started in late 2004 with 100.00. I worked out the other day that I have increased this to 60,000. Paid off my mortage and built an extension on the house too.
There's only one real secret to it. You have to find something that is a niche, that you are interested in and that you can become expert in quite quickly. If you have recently started on ebay and are only just breaking even, or even losing a bit, do not despair. This happened to me in the first few months. But I kept at it, weeded out all the items that were not bringing in a profit and developed those that were, just like natural selection.

I'm not sure that wholesalers are the way to go. It it was worth selling separately, then others would have found it, or the wholesales would develop a retail section. I sincerely believe (through experience) that boot sales, small auction houses, house clearance sales and occasional jumble sales are what does it.

if you like china, research it and go into it. If you are interested in the war, go for battle memorabilia. Nothing could be more dull than selling something you loathe and is BORING.

Oh, and invest in a good camera, do not rely on a self help book (they only make money for the publisher and the author) and develop excellent customer relationships. Repeat buyers are the way forward!

    best of luck.

Thats about £3.64. 50,000 miles is worth £50, you can get a cheque for that, or 20,000 is a £20 amazon voucher. HTH :)

Also, just have a quick question...

I have joined DooYoo and have done my first review, just wondering what is the best way to gain miles from readings and ratings? And how do you get a circle of friends?

The best way to maximise reads and rates on Dooyoo is to spend time reading and rating other reviews on the site. Many existing members 'return rates' which is when they rate people who have rated their reviews. Even those members who don't religiously return rates won't rate members that aren't actively rating other people. (Most check the member's profile which lists how many reviews they have rated.)

You do need to spend time reading the reviews though. If you 'speed click' , which is going straight down to the ratings button, this is classed as abuse and your Dooyoo account can be locked, losing all of your miles earned so far!

Also, make sure your reviews are long enough to qualify for payout. The minimum word count is 150 words of 'personal opinion', which doesn't include any factual information about the product. If any of your reviews are on the short side and don't contain much opinion, there is a strong possibility that Dooyoo will refuse to pay for them when you redeem for rewards. Realistically, your reviews need to be a minimum of around 300-400 words (including lots of opinion) to guarantee that they will be up to scratch.

Reading and rating other members reviews gives you some idea of the quality needed. It would be very disappointing to find you haven't earned quite as much as you think as your reviews are locked and you lose your miles.

    Good luck! :)

Hi, I hit the spam button on your post by accident (damn trackpad on the laptop going crazy). I un-spammed the message immediately, but sorry if it has repercussions (no idea how this works on this site). I really don't think "count me in please!" is spam ... sorry ... and er ... welcome ;)

Wow really! :DThank you I'm really impressed by that today is the first day I've written 5 reviews. Is there a limit to how many you can read and review a day do you know how much you get paid for that part?
