The table top sales idea is a very good one... yes you do need your own public liability insurance, its the same if you do a festival or country show etc... its to cover if anything happens because of your porduct or anything happneing within your designated stall area... ie someone could trip over one of your products and break a leg etc...
if you are thinking of doing things like this during the year on a regular basis, then it is def worth getting public liability insurance...especially if there is no carboot sales or jumble sales locally, and you think there would be a good little money earner..
you could organise..
tabletop sales...
jumble sales...
craft fairs...
book sales...
plant sales in the spring/early summer now the one local to us is heaving and makes loads of money...mmmmmm just given myself an idea.....lol..
toy sales
chrsitmas sales/fete
and dont forget you can make money on the refreshments too
I think you can get pub liability for around the £100 mark ( sorry dont know exact as i have a package insurance) so spread that over the cost of the amount of events you were thinking of organising and it wouldnt work out too bad,
you might even just be able to get insurance for just the day, but i should imagine this would work out not much cheaper than taking it out for the day...
dont forget everything is a gamble and not a dead cert you are going to make a profit, even on things you are buying to sell, and you ARE going to lose on some things..... so everything you do will have a slight risk factor...... its called business:rotfl:Work to live= not live to work0 -
Anyway, changing the subject away from insurance
I have uploaded a sample of my stuff to photobucket, if anyone is interested. A couple of cards and some necklaces.
For the necklaces I use stuff reclaimed from other pieces, recycled bits and bobs, etc. and some stamping. I need to check the angel policy on all the stamps that I want to use, which will be a very boring job! For the cards I mostly make my own backgrounds with alcohol and distress inks (some acrylic paints) so each one is unique.
I also intend to do handmade baby bootees (as I have a mountain of fabric stash as well as paper!) and maybe some nice photo mounts (scrapbook type style with embellishments) and embellished gift boxes. Some stuff will be for craft fairs only, as I can't be doing with packing up the gift boxes so they won't get crushed, but a necklaces is easy enough to bung in a padded bag.
No idea what I could call a Folksy shop selling such an eclectic mix of stuff though.

So the £100 ish would cover you for a whole year for all the events you organised?
That doesnt sound too bad, even if you only did 1 every month thats £8.33 per event you should be able to cover that!
Might look into this a bit more and phone for some quotes next weekCOOLTRIKERCHICK wrote: »

i think so.. i will have a scout around and try and give some links...
edit.. ok just had a quick look, you would need to tap in cheap public liability insurace, and then the firms want to give you quotations.. so i am afraid i cant do it for you, gocompare also do a business section so you could try that,
but to be honesst it might be worth phonong a insurance broker next week, explain you want to hold some sale events ( dont say what...lol...) and you want public liability.... i would also check with the hall exactly what type of cover they need you to have..Work to live= not live to work0 -
2cats1kid, your stuff is great too. What a talented bunch of people.
I think it's important not to give up at the first hurdle, and learn from mistakes. When I first tried the £10.00 a day challenge, I made £15.00 in the first month, but now for the same amount of effort, I regularly hit £300.00 +. I've got much better with practice, and learnt what works for me and what doesn't.I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -

Has anyone ever sold beanie babies? I've seen they don't sell well on ebay, but i'm not really bothered about how much they make as just need to get rid of them but wondered if anyone else had any sucess on anywhere else as ebay seems to be very hit & miss with beanie babies? (Have about 50+)
Thanks in advance *agaainnn*

we have a load of these and have no idea how to get rid, they really don't seem to sell on Ebay do they? Maybe save them and use them as 'little extra' presents, and save cash that way? We've been giving ours to the kids e.g. they all had one poking out of the top of their stocking on Christmas DayI have come here to chew bubblegum and kick @ss.... and I'm all out of bubblegum.0 -
