Why do you think Argos are running scared? They have nothing to be scared about, they are simply honoring their legal obligations under the Sale of Goods Act.

    RESULT
hi, i have a tacoma 11 wooden playcentre, paid £400 in dec 2007 argos just offered me £266. im not happy. but have been phoning around (argos & plum) and eventually phoned adventure playsets direct in america. the number is 001-800-856-4445. you have to phone them after 3pm uk time cos that is 9am there. spoke to a very nice helpfull guy called wes, he knew all about the recall. apparently the recall is due to the fact that the main stuctures that are made of wood and are plastic coated in either red or green. the plastic has been splitting and letting water in but not letting it out again so basically rotting the wood. he is going to send me brand new ones that have been redesigned and just made of wood. WHY ARE ARGOS NOT OFFERING THIS AS ANOTHER OPTION TO REFUND OR MEERCAT????????
he says it could possibly be may time when we get the spare parts.
    GET RINGING AMERICA !!!!!!!

Planky1, Did Wes say that the replacements were being shipped free of charge? its just that the warranty that came with the playset said it does not cover "The cost of freight after the initial 30 days of purchase"
  • yes he said they would all be shipped out free of charge, anything that is plastic covered wood
  • have just rang adventure playsets and was told i needed to contact the number in the back of the booklet that came with my playset, explained that i some one from the uk had already contacted them, and had been told they would supply replacement parts but he didnt go for that, explained that as the playset was almost 3 years old and i no longer had the instructions and all he could do was tell me where to download a copy, when i said plum products were their uk agents he said i should contact them, but he did seem aware of the problem, i guess a lot of people have started to call them, emailed both backyard and plum on sunday but no reply from either.

Just rang them myself and they are shipping the replacement parts in May. They will need a coat of preservative b4 fitting. :rotfl::j:T:beer:
  • just rang them again and was told that they could not help me, he started to take details but when it became apparent i was from the uk he said that they were aware that there was a situation over here and that i would need to contact the shop i bought it from, he was sorry but he could not help me, is it me??:(
  • just rang for the third time, explained that other uk customers had been promised replacement parts, was told that they had a meeting this morning and that they could not help us, we needed to contact our sellers as we were out of their jurisdiction, i asked to speak to superviser or line manager, he came back on the line a short while later and said he had been told to tell me to contact someone in the uk, and that he could not transfer me to his superviser.

Can you not suggest to Argos that you were mis-sold the product?

The documentation that came with it appears to talk about a twelve year guarantee.
I am sure some of you would have been persuaded to buy the thing knowing that if bits broke, or rotted, this would not be a problem in the first twelve years.

Clearly, the US manufacturers are not going to honour that guarantee. If you had known that at the time of purchase, would you continue with your purchase?

Just a thought. I have no idea if it has any legal basis.

I think also you should ring TS and tell them Argos are still selling goods with a 12 year warranty that does not exist because the company offering it are in the US. Has anyone asked this question, please?
