cartoonguy...when did you originally buy your climbing frame?0 -
Been offered a Meerkat as well. Will be ringing Plum Products next week to see what else they can offer.
Bloody annoyed that a product that was guaranteed for 10??? years has only given us 3 years of usage and now they try to fob me off with a couple of hundred pounds or an inferior replacement.0 -
I too have recieved this letter and am fuming!!!! I have been offered £114, bloody cheek! I have contacted trading standards and been told i don't have a leg to stand on, great!!! I have now written to watchdog, so if anyone wants to do the same we might get somewher. You can do this online, just google them. I have also set up a facebook site called Playcentre is unsafe and Argos ripped me off. Please join, the more grief we give them, maybe we will get somewhere! We can but hope. Any more advice please help!0

Hi
I have owned my Tacoma only two years, today Argos offered me a Meerkat alternative-apparently only available if you have owned it less than three years, or a refund of 266.53.
I have looked at the Meerkat and it is certainly not going to do the job for my children-no monkey bars and a lethal seesaw thing! They want to collect my Tacoma immediately, however the Meerkat will not be available until May, I have four very unimpressed children.
I purchased this with my credit card, so I am going to contact the dispute centre when it opens on Monday, to see if they can help- under the 1974 credit act they are also jointly responsible for the product.
Plum products have also given me a 20% discount if I wish to purchase from their website, unfortunately the nearest product is £1000...0 -
Realistically if you bought a £700 TV and it went caput after 3 years, everyone would be urging you to push under SOGA for replacement. Why is therefore a lack of understanding generally on this thread for an item which should last longer than a TV? If the original product is a H&S risk, and the fault is an inherent manufacturing fault, then a replacement or refund is the least that should be being offered, let alone a goodwill gesture on top.
If customers make a mistake, retailers fall back onto their T&C's. If a retailer makes a mistake, the company tries to get away with their bare minimum. Direct replacement of equivalent value is the least anyone should be expecting.
I'll give you a scenario - I always buy wood patio furniture at the end of a season before I need some the next summer, and store it in a moderated temperature building. It looks now I won't need it until 2011. What happens if Tesco in 2011 recall that item? Should I expect a token gesture, even though the item will be brand new? I wouldn't take less than I paid for it, so why should the OP?0 -
We bought our Tacoma in 2006. I have treated it with wood preservative regularly and last summer a couple of monkey bars fell off and the wood on the plastic covered supports is rotten. We stopped the kids from playing on it. I was just about to contact the manufacturer when we received the letter about the recall. Our manufacturer is called Adventure Playsets (must have changed name to Backyard) and I have noted that in our Warranty it claims that "all wooden components will be guaranteed against rot or insect damage for 12 years to the original owner".
I think that they really need to honour this claim in the warranty otherwise give a full refund or equivalent replacement. Funnily enough, there are some Plum Playcentres on the Argos website still claiming this 12 year guarantee. Does that mean that all the new models have used the appropriate non-rot timber?
We too have had the conversations with Argos, who obviously seem to want to get the defective playset back and for us to settle on the paltry sum of £174.99.
I would be really interested to see how others get on with this. Well done to the other members who have managed to get an offer of a Meerkat replacement, but it would be useful to see if any of us can get a full refund or like for like replacement.
Will let you know how we get on.0 -
I was going to call and press for the meercat replacement, however with the lack of monkey bars (the main component that my children use) both my children have declined the Meercat from the off.
If the item is guaranteed for 12 years, I dont understand why a full refund or like for like replacement isnt a legal requirement.0 -
