That's why they set up the land army during World War 2. Britain needed to become self-sufficient in food, so that the boats could be used for troops and not for food - and also, with less ships bringing food into Britain, that meant we were less at risk of being surrounded without food.0 -
Anyone doing this atm producing food for anyone apart from themselves, probably would be dragged through the courts.PasturesNew wrote: »Pee and poop go in the lavatory, always flush; other animal poop goes at the base of roses.
Anybody messing about with these rules should be dragged through the courts and banned from producing food!
Someone needs to step back from the whole thing and examine every part of the system we have. After they have found out the crazy situation we find ourselves in now, where we take the nutrients from oil and flush them way, then extract a whole new set of nutrients from the oil for next weeks food.
It doesn't take much common sense to realise we can't do this for ever.
But we need to get over the squeamishness of a great deal of the population, plus anger, sheer daily mail blindness and unwillingness to give up the life we have now.
It's not difficult to see that won't happen without disaster striking first.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

We need to get over a great deal of population....!0 -
The programme also mentioned the Rwandan massacre a few years back - when nearly 1,000,000 people were slaughtered. There were basically two tribes - and most of the people had started with having land, on which they grew their own food. The trouble with this is that if you have more than 2 kids then the land starts to get divided up into pieces too small to live from any more .... so neighbour turned on neighbour, younger people with nothing decided to start slaughtering their neighbours, hoping to inherit/bag themselves their house/land.
Imagine your situation now.... if you had to stay living where you are right now - and if you have kids they can't ever leave, unless they move in with the family of anybody they marry. No extra space, you just have to immediately and forever make do with what you have now.0 -
That's just a microcosm of the world atm. Then imagine a Hitler type person wanting to have "growing space" for his population.PasturesNew wrote: »The programme also mentioned the Rwandan massacre a few years back - when nearly 1,000,000 people were slaughtered. And as our government seem intent on us being in every silly little war that goes on somewhere, we would pay for some of it.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

the best thing to do is wipe them all out and turn africa into a big farm. once you get the third worlders out of there, the place will start working again.
lol, but they do make films, Out Of Africa is one....;)
They way things are going there will be no-one left in Africa as they seem to be moving to Europe0 -
I watched a bit of this. Its no coincidence that one of the best performing investments in recent years has been all about water and infrastructure investment.
Growing countries cannot exist without massive development of water, it was true in america also so its nothing new just newer countries0 -

Are they everywhere?
No, but Farmers' Markets are a kind of cooperative, and ordinary markets too, if you learn to differentiate between those who produce and those who buy-in. Then there's local WI Markets and country fairs etc in village halls. Finally, farm shops offer another way of going local.0
