Just saw this on Ebay:
Free Insertion Fee for all auction format listings with a start price up to £4.99 in the Media categories: Music; Books, Comics and Magazines; Video Games; and DVD, Film & TV for all private users.
It will apply from Wednesday 9th December until Sunday 24th January.
A small bit of good news for some of us who want to sell books, DVDs and Cds etc on Ebay

cool saving 20p but getting stung with the higher selling fee of the auction type! approx 9.9% if I recall for Media cat items0

The main problem with enforced free postage is that it is no longer worthwhile to list free at 99p start because if your item sells for only 99p you will have to pay the postage and all fees.
At least with this promotion you can list at up to 4.99 for free - this is a good thing if you have items such as hardback books or vinyl LPs that might not sell - it hasn't cost to list and if they sell for the start price you won't be out of pocket.0 -

Also, there's nothing to stop the "postage isn't free, it's £..." brigade from listing for £4.99 and still wanting paid-for P+P.
Not that I'm saying it's a bad idea to give free listings for a bit, just that people might abuse it, or get confused by it.Back on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.
