what a load of rubbish and waste of time. boot this shower of s hite out now. call an election.
our credit rating will plummet on the back of this. the "savings" aren't enough to cover interest for a week!!0 -
They'll merely postpone paying bonuses until afterwards.
Whats wrong with that?
Or are you one of these reactionary quasi-socialists who don't think any "bad boy banker" should get a bonus?
If they postpone they will build up capital reserves and/ or pay bonuses in shares.
This will encourage a move toward long-term investment.0 -

Yep - you can put me down as being one of those, although no need for the 'quasi'.

Absolutely.
Once the tax payers have got every penny back then I don't care what they do. Until then they share the "pain"0 -

What about the banks that did not come to the taxpayer, should their bonuses be taxed?0 -
I don't get where all the money is going to come from to fill the defecit (other than my NHS salary!!!)
I totally disagree with this bloomin' bingo cut - nuts! There are much greater things for us to be cutting right now.
I would have liked to have seen some tough action all around to be honest, this is too namby pamby!
What I would have liked to see:
Modest increase in tax across the board Did that 0.5% on NI from 2011
Abolish child benefit Electoral suicide. I'm all in favour but I just don't see it EVER happening
Cut pension credit rates Did that for higher earners
Cut job seekers allowance (unless they community earnt it!) Good idea
Tax second cars ??? How you going to work that? How about people who live together but not married? etc etc. Unworkable. All the more people with illegal cars not insured.
Make fags £10 a packet I'm no smoker but the illegal importing of them will just become the norm for all as opposed to the norm for some
(and yes, I have kids and 2 cars and work public sector and unfortunately smoke!)
What I would have brought in:
Heavily subsidised or free healthy school meals for all kids Bought it in for the poorest I think
Heavily subsidised or free school uniform of equitable standard for all school age kids How many each year? Seems expensive for no real reason to me
Total review of public transport systems to ensure they're working for all. Reviews? We have enough of them
Much fairer review of costs for the elderly, with money spent on support / care networks. Oh good another review. You sound like a politicain already.
Subsidy on fresh fruit and veg for all (to ultimately reduce the NHS bill)
Too expensive. People can buy this already if they're prepared to cook
Me for PM!!! No thanks I want change not silly ideas

And those Foreign banks who have not needed any UK (or any other Govts ) cash?
Should they be penalised too?Go round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger0 -
JonnyBravo wrote: »Yep most of them have benefitted from the implicit support of the Govt.
Harsh but there is no way of realistically defining a cut off for where the support has been vital.
Um what about.
'Did you accept any UK Govt Money as a bail out' - YES/NO
YES -Tax on big bonuses
NO - Carry on
How much simpler does it need to be?Go round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger0
