Yes, lot to consider, but I've been through the process and as I said in an earlier posting, I have an engineer lined up to replace it next week.

Ironically, I had chosen the WB 30CDi, so the reviewcentre link doesn't fill me with confidence now!

Why should people commit to spending 2.5K now if they can wait until after Christmas and get £400 off?

They haven't even announced when it will start.

Put it off until, you know if you can. Looks to be early next year, I would say after winter, something for them to be doing other than services over the warmer months. :)

But how reliable is your CD compared to vinyl(a CD can scratch and can still play without loss of sound quality). Thanks for that :)
My record player is 25 years old and still as good as ever :)

With a really good stylus my records are also fine.

I think my first CD player lasted just over 3 years....

    Progress eh? ;)

Kabayiri - i would put it off (hopefully save £400)

with regards to WB - even though the link is rather damning they are regarded as one of the best in the business

i posted it to try to show that modern A rated boilers are unfortuantly not very reliable

    No, but a parent.

So you have purchased a new build house then?

nope not purchased a new house

    (i work in construction)

as a parent (i'm one to) if your preaching about what condition you want to leave the planet in shouldn't you become a vegetarian (have more effect than replacing an old boiler)

Ah but my Toshiba system which I purchased in 18 years ago the CD play still works fine (gave it to my parents).
And the CD player in my dad 15 year old car still works fine.

I purchased a cheap stereo before that and the record player had uneven speed and it chewed tapes.

How have your records faired compared to cds?:)

It is all down to what you spend in the end. Much like when we went over the advantages of purchasing Miele.

I dare say you could buy a boiler now that will last you 25 years. You will just have to do your reaserch.

only if you replaced a lot of the parts
  • He said that up to 125,000 households would benefit from the boiler scrappage scheme. Seeing as there are apparently 4 million g-rated boilers in the UK the scheme is not going to be open to everyone. Assume there is going to some sort of means testing rather than the free for all car scrappage scheme?

I replaced mine in October so I'm sorted.

My wife is a vegetarian so i am partly by default. Also run economical cars, so doing my bit.

Perhaps you should change your suppliers for boilers then rather than fitting ones that last 5 years.

I know what you're saying, but I feel like I'm letting the engineer down now that I accepted their quote. I don't even know if I will qualify. 125K homes doesn't sound a lot.

Clearly, he didnt have any idea this scheme was in the pipeline.

I dunno, sounds like another cack handed implementation of a good idea at heart. How are the heating people going to respond to this uncertainty?

so how many boilers are left from 1984 and how many have not had a part fitted? (I did not think one would last 25 years without a part going wrong, neither would i think the average 1984 one would go 25 years without a part)

I really need a comparison for this rather than just someone telling me they have one.

Also running costs would be helpful i could knock up the costing in no time to tell you at what point one becomes more economically viable than the other.

PS multi fuel is fairly part free and eco friendly, could last you a liftime
