I have just found the Kitchen Table Charities Trust- it was mentioned on the first page of this thread, see below- it seems a brilliant Charity with NO admin costs and supports small projects mainly in Africa.

As far as I am aware, they don't do gifts, but The Kitchen Table Charities Trust, set up by John Humphrys, advertises itself as not spending a penny on administration in the UK. That gets my vote.
im looking to buy a gift for secret santa this year and love the idea of macmillian where you can donate as a gift for some one else, i notice this is an old thread , is there a newer one or does anyone have any more ideas uk based charitys?
For every pair of socks purchased, we donate a thick, antibacterial pair to a homeless person.

I'd like to share a different twist - The Charity Shop Gift Card is backed by the Charity Retail Association and is a charity gift card that can be spent at participating charity shops. Ideal for someone that already buys from charity shops. www.thecharityshopgiftcard.co.uk
I'd love to share the new virtual gifts from Young Lives vs Cancer. You can purchase an ecard or physical card and give things such as the gift of a clean and safe place to stay and the gift of bedtime stories and a cuddle with teddy. All gifts were created by families facing cancer and things they found helpful throughout their cancer journey and the designs were done by a Young Lives vs Cancer volunteer, Tim. You can find them on the Young Lives vs Cancer online shop under virtual gifts
Every penny raised goes towards supporting children and young people with cancer and their families across the UK.
You can create a virtual stocking with gifts and stand with people facing homelessness this Christmas. If you're giving with or on behalf of a child, there’s a colourful certificate so they can proudly display the difference they’ve made: www.crisis.org.uk/get-involved/crisis-christmas-stocking/
Or, you can buy a virtual gift for your loved one and help change the life of someone experiencing homelessness. In return for your generous donation, Crisis will send your loved one a personalised e-card, with the option for it to be sent to them on Christmas Day morning: www.crisis.org.uk/get-involved/virtual-gifts/

Eg, via Unicef, Oxfam Unwrapped, Macmillan, Save the Children and more
Homelessness charity Crisis is running its annual 'Crisis at Christmas' centres across the country
Eg, keep in touch with a phone call, or pass on Age UK's numbers if they need advice or just a chat
Find your nearest The Trussell Trust location or check your council's website
