you've got a daughter, kids usually have MP3 players. You can use the MP3 player as a portable drive to copy info from one machine to another.
Connect the MP3 player (copy the music onto the new machine first) to the old machine, copy data onto it. Plug it into the new computer, copy the data back off it. Delete the data and put the music back on.
you can even use a digital camera and copy it onto the memory card if it's big enough,0 -
i just did GCSE ICT last week, and believe me, your daughter does not need Office at home. The exams don't ask Microsoft specific questions, and there is nothing in the exams that ask anything that isnt used in Open Office.

ohh, and what CPU said about transferring data between different programs - it is very easy to import and export data between program such as Excel and Open Offices version. There is no reason his daughter needs Office.
The only time this would be true is if you were doing some very complex calculations (and i mean a lot worse than the likes of spearmens rank corrleation) to make exporting and importing data a problem. If she was doing those she should be able to pay for Office herself :P0 -
TaBunny wrote:I will have to try and search the net for a cheap package of flat screen and computer can't really affort more than £400 maybe we'd be better off getting a laptop.
Just one thought, TaBunny.....if you opt for a Dell they will come out and set it up for you and transfer all your data and files over from the old PC. I think there may be a fee for this, but check on their website for details.

That's handy to know for future use actually, thanks. Like I said, I wasn't sure of the differences between the programs.
However, my lad
is being taught to use the programs that are most in use in the business workplace by the school. I'm told the object isn't just in churning out an end result good Powerpoint presentation for example, but it's also partly to give the kids a decent grounding in being able to use these particular programs so that they are familiar with them and have a head start in future employment.
It seems that most businesses use standard Microsoft stuff above others. Although I daresay there will always be the exception.0 -

Are you saying the people on here with problems use pirate software?
Most of the problems on here are people wanting wireless internet.
If you go for office on torrents DC ect you should know what your getting the main problem is people seaech for screen savers and junk on limewire with words like disney and download anything without thinking, get the new exe file and run it thats what the problem is, unfortunalty the less knowlegeable people see somthing called office2003.exe of 30kb and think that must be office so they download it and run it the pc goes in to melt down not realising the office comes on a cd which can hold a fair bit more if you use sites available that tell you about the downloads available you will know that office 2003 is about 400MB. infact you dont need a website to tell you office isnt 30kb.
As for buying office bundled with a pc, it could be the cheaper option as the OEM versions of office are alot cheaper, you can get the student edition.
If your buying a version Standard edition is enough for you it has Word, Excel Powerpoint and outlook, if you qualify for the student edition you can save a fortune and it has the same 4 applications for more about the office edditions check this site if you qualify for the student edition dont buy it with a pc you will pay more for it.0 -

WOW thanks SOG I would never of known this that's so amazing to know, I didn't realise you could put photos on the MP3 player, my daughter has the creative zen its 20gb and can hold about 10,000 songs I think so should be plenty of room on it. Many many thanks again.
Also thanks to Wombat and Lord Chris for your help too it's much appreciated I've learned so much over the last few days ha thanks guys.

Do take care though if you're using an iPod to move data around. iPod's hold some system software on the flash memory (hard drive to the tecnophobes!!
) inside them and you can - if you're not paying attention - delete it! Not a major problem if you do (speaking from experience here!!
) just reinitialise the iPod using the provided software.
It does work fine though - used my iPod several times to move data between PC's. However, the "health warning" needed to be mentioned.Never attach your ego to your position....0
