You can copy them to floppy disk, CD (if you have a CD-Writer), USB Pen Drive and copy into the new PC. Or set up a network with a network cable and copy them over that way. Or take your hard drive out of your old PC, instal it into the new one as a slave drive and copy from the slave to Master drive.0 -
Openoffice is not bad (especially for a freebie).
The only slight problem I could see is if your daughters school is teaching the class to use MS Office programs. Using MS software at school, and Openoffice at home will mean she will have to learn the different interfaces/tools/commands for each program. She may not get support from her teachers for Openoffice. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I have copies of Microsoft Works Suite for my desktop and laptop. This comes with Works, Word and other programs like Encarta. See here.
It's often cheaper to buy Works Suite than Word on it's own. Works will open Excel spreadsheets, but you can download Excel Viewer for free from Microsoft. You can view Excel files but not edit them with it.0 -

But the OP's daughter has a need Office applications like Powerpoint and Excel as stated in post #1. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
In that case, is she entitled to purchase the Student & Teacher Edition? See here for information on the different Offices editions. It's £80.99 on Amazon.co.uk.espresso wrote:But the OP's daughter has a need Office applications like Powerpoint and Excel as stated in post #1.0 -
Sorry, I have just realised I have posted another thread on this subject. I am still a bit unsure if there are any disadvantages to open office? I can open any files from open office on word if I need to? I am a teacher and sometimes work at home, so may for example need to start a report at home on finish on school pc.0
