Body Shop are notorious leeches.
When I last went in there and the leech shimmied over to me and asked is she could help me , I said, Yes, you certainly can, you can leave me alone to browse the shop and I will call you if I need any help! The look on her face was a picture, you would have thought i had just slapped her.
Needless to say she shimmied off and left me to browse but I didnt buy anything, just smiled sweetly at her as I left the shop empty handed. You live..You learn.:)0 -
I just did a mystery shop there again today; didn't get approached for AGES. Great for me as I like my space and peace but not good for the report I'll be submitting later.0

I like Staples. Went in there to get my netbook (which was on sale) and I was left alone to have a good look for about 5 minutes, then they asked if they could help. Woman couldn't find it, so man came over to help. He was really nice, very pleasant, asked if I needed any extras (nope) and was a very nice man. He definitely deserved his commission that day .** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **

I do it all because I'm scared.

Exactly, pretty much every retailer will tell staff they need to approach customers within x timeframe, whether or not it works depends on the sales assistant
Hopefully companies are realising that customers don't want to be jumped on e.g.my company changed the timeframe from within 30 seconds to 2 minutes to allow a little browsing time
I run my own retail business and I certainly don't have a specific time frame to approaching customers. You can usually tell how much interaction a customer wants dependent on how they approach me and the products.
Maybe retailers should employ people that can use their own initiative rather than have a directive.0 -
I am afraid it is the general thing in retail staff are told to approach customers after a certain time period. Just to show you are there if needed and to be polite to customers. Although I don't know why the bosses of these retail stores don't listen to customers needs on this one as most DONT like to be jumped on as soon as they enter a shop and can tell who the staff are if they need help.
my OH works for an independant carpet store and he just says a cheery 'hello' from his desk if someone browses for more than a couple of minutes. he dont pounce. tis rude to pounce. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
Exactly what is that time period?
I walked into one of those gadget type shops recently...I put ONE foot over the threshold, literally, and Nigel the Nerd came rushing over to me: "can I help, can I help"
I said: "Let me get in the bl00dy shop first eh?"
He looked confused.
"Are you looking for anything in particular madam"?
"I don't know", I replied, "as I haven't had the opportunity to actually get IN your shop yet to see what it is you actually sell"....
He then followed me round for the next 10 seconds, while I did an extremely quick circuit back out of the place.
I HATE being harrassed while I try and shop.
I've gone back into the Body Shop after many years of Lush-dom, as they've brought back my 1980's favourites and wanted some...
Could I get a word in, could I even get to the shelf they were on? Could I flip!
All shops are getting the same now and it's highly irritating.
i hate it. but i equally hate asking 'excuse me where could i find *insert item*' and having to interrupt a 3 way colleague conversation thats going on about !!!! all and they look at you with the daggers. you are employed to give a service and not discuss who you shagged last night/how much you owe on your overdraft/who's fit/you name it ive probably heard it...
i got leapt on by a girl in a shop the other day where they have always let customers be. she insisted the dress, that i was lusting over but couldnt afford and if i could it would be a daft purchase as i would wear it once. 'oh that would so suit your colour'hair or skin tone im not sure. was a very nice dress but quit the hassle. she even started engaging my kids in cute conversation hoping to get her sale.
i asked if she could knock £10 off as then id buy it. she whimpered 'no' and shuffled off.
and then to top that days shopping off, i spent ages wandering round wilkinsons looking for last minute presents and party stuff as the kids have their joint birthday party this sunday. after about 30 mins i noticed security started following me around rather blatantly. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
