  • It's better than in Currys, Dixons or PC World. I've been completely, totally, utterly blanked by staff every single time. Presumably because I'm a mere female. Last time, Boyfriend was offered help three times whilst he was waiting for me to buy something whilst I had been ignored again. In the end, after trying to get someone to help again, only to have them walk off, I had enough.

I started bouncing up and down and in the squeaky voice I seem to reserve for being highly miffed, I called out VERY loudly 'HELLLLOOOO! ANYONE? ' waving my credit cards in my hand 'FIVE THOUSAND POUND CREDIT LIMIT! HELLOOOOOO!!!!!'

I was noticed and acknowledged rather quickly after that.

I decided to shop somewhere else.

When they ask what you are looking for reply "something for a sweaty chuff" they soon disappear then

Edit- this will work better in Body Shop than it will a Jewellers

I've just mystery shopped the Body Shop today. They are meant to acknowledge you within 30 seconds of entering the store, which the one I visited did. They are also meant to put a sample of the product on your skin, offer an additional product and push their loyalty card. So it's the shops themselves not the assistants that you have to blame for this irritation. If they hadn't done this to me today, they would have likely failed their mystery shop.
Hawkins Bazaar also have been mystery shopped recently so again they have a similar target.

I don't generally notice it any more, but did find it irritating last time I was in Game. There was no peace in browsing, v irritating.

When asked by staff in a Body Shop branch I normally just say "I am browsing", but if the follow me round the shop or ask me the same again, I generally ask them how their against animal testing policy is not compromised by their ownership by L'Oreal.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)

    :rotfl: What do they say?
  • I don't like it, I don't like it at all, and I think the shop owners would get more sales if they left people alone.

Yes, have the assistants placed so that they can be approached if needed (do a tree configuration if you like). Nothing is more annoying than not being able to find an assistant when you do need one (probably because they are spending all their time pouncing on the poor browsers in the doorway to the shop), but don't for one minute think that all that stalking is going to make me buying anything - cause it won't, nor will any clever sales talk or any other rehersed obligatory pitches - We are only too well aware of what you are trying to do, and it's not going to work, and it is not good customer service either.
  • i used to work in a jewellers, we worked behind a counter and every time a customer entered the store we would have to go out through the door into the shop and ask if we could help. i absolutely hated it, felt like i was pouncing on people. We had to do this by order of the managment, i dont know why cause i hate it when staff pounce on me like that....and most of the time i leave and dont come back

Same with me when I worked for a certain clothing retail chain. I've been a mystery shopper for Body Shop and the staff are meant to approach you, and also upsell on things, give demos and samples etc. So annoying as it is, they really are only doing their job.

And, as a result, I will not be shopping in there or any other place where I'm practically chased around.

ooooh i have such fun in those shops, i must be the customer from hell lol:rotfl:
