Wow you've all opened my eyes, sometimes if I am a bit unsure about something I will ask if they accept local pickup, even if I don't want to pick it up, just to find out what the seller is like.
I also don't buy off people that can't be bothered to write a correct sentence.

I've had some lovely people come here to pick things up, one guy bought a vintage item and it turned out (not surprising really) that we were into the same things, he stayed for a coffee and we had a lovely chat, I also met his cute little baby he brought with him.

But then I'm a confident bloke who wouldn't hesitate to tell someone to get out, I can see it from single females POV.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

Another time I sold some stage clothes to a singer and she bought bouncers with her who also came in without permission even though I had the stuff bundled ready for her by the front door.

Please tell me this was someone of huge fame and not just the local pub singer with body guards?!?!?! :rotfl:

Apparently she was famous from the TV, an ex soap star turned singer. Trouble is I have no idea who she was and she was really miffed when she asked whether I wanted her to sign anything (meaning an autograph) and I said no (believing she meant some sort of receipt for goods!).

All I know was she was young, skinny, big on top and had an all girl backing group, that probably narrows it down to several thousand.:rotfl:

  • Petty is too strong a word...but the fact is you bought the apron knowing the costs, p&p etc etc.

Why should the seller be inconvenienced and have to adapt their sale to your T&C that you suddenly fancy imposing?

I wouldn't allow pick - up either. Not saying any buyers who suddenly decide they'd rather pick up are iffy...far from it, but it's a strange world out there, and I don't want strangers coming to my house,....apart from the fact that they may/ may not turn up on time etc etc...

    Just MHO............:o
if i had known then what i know now
  • I have allowed collection, and hand delivered items from ebay, but I also merrily freecycle and am really careful about personal safety. I delivered an item to a winning bidder last week who lived in my home town to save her postage (she was another freecycler, and I already knew her!)

I have also collected delicate musical instruments, and allowed collection of an item needed the next day and arranged a BIN for the bidder.

I would never push the issue if the other party said no - there may be all sorts of reasons why the other person may not want personal contact - and none of those reasons need be at all dodgy.

You agreed to the terms and conditions. Why recorded? - it protects the seller rather than the buyer. if youve paid by paypal and it doesnt arrive, you are still covered.
  • Wow quite a few different opinons thank you, I guess I am being petty, as I said i wasnt fused that she didnt want me to come to her home because I could understand that she wouldnt want a stranger turning up.
I want recorded as I want the item, i know pay pal will refund me but lots of the the little mishaps with lost mail can be avoided if someone has to sign for it.
    Thanks again

This always provokes comment on here about Recorded not being any safer than ordinary mail, but I also prefer to use Recorded Delivery.

As a buyer I've never yet had a RD item go missing (unlike normal mail). Some of the things I buy on ebay are collectible or HTF so I don't want to claim my money back, I want the item.
Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.

    Martine McCutcheon, j'accuse.

Neither had I until this week. I paid extra to get an item sent 1st class recorded (not for the recorded part, for the 1st class part). It was sent on the 1st of December and I still haven't received it. :(

Because either they might not live where they are supposed to, they might not actually have the item, they might be making waaaay too much on P&P, they might say it comes from a smoke free house and it doesn't, the item may not be exactly like it is supposed to......... the list is endless.

Thats a strange way of looking at things! I would never allow pickup of anything - no way I'm letting some random person I know nothing about come to my house. Maybe you should look at it from the sellers perspective.

I once posted something to someone 2 streets away :rotfl:
