I echo everything you say stressed steph. In fact your post bought a lump to my throat. It bought back so many memories. Especially the bit about waiting for your dad to come home.
I recall a time when I finally plucked up courage to ask a friend to stay from school. I was tied up in knots with the fear that my dad would come in drunk and she would tell everyone about him. Of course he did, and I was dying inside when he walked in the door.
I witnessed so many terrifying things as a child that I have never been able to really relax or trust, especially men! You are right too that many girls end up with men like their fathers. They keep on trying to repair men!
I am now (finally) with a lovely man who rarely drinks. He did however, go out for a days drinking with some work mates (a Christmas tradition) and I found him repulsive. I knew I must not get upset as he is not violent or abusive atall, but still - the smell of that alchohol bought back so many memories.
There are many people who are content with the odd glass of wine or beer, but in my opinion alcohol ruins the lives of everyone around a person who is addicted to it. +Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
