new phone, IPHONE or HTC hero??

Avoid t-mobile like the plague. (Poor signal, poor call quality, charges for MMS and voicemail) I recently got myself a HTC Hero. I absolutely adore the phone, but unreservedly regret leaving O2 in order to get it.
All networks have good and bad points. I personally have an iPhone account with O2 and a SIM only with TMOB - TMOB much better 3G than O2! Can just about get 1-2 bars at home with O2 whereas TMOB full 5 bar 3G!
But I agree, TMOB do charge for MMS and VM.
But with Networks, it really is a postcode lottery when it comes to reception I'm afraid. If I've help in anyway, please remember to thank me :-)0 -
thanks all for your views.
i know the htc isnt as smooth running as the iphone but does anyone know if its still fast? and if the apps are any good?
Oh what kind of deals/retention offers have ppl had out there with the HTC phone??
The lag markymoo mentions, probably refers to the Hero's previous software version. A newer version has been released which has since resolved a lot of the lagging issues. There are times when it does grind rather slowly and that is normally down to the number of apps open at once. So I, amongst many other Android users, have installed an app killer application (free), that closes anything that isnt needed.
Basically, I wouldn't give up my Hero for an iPhone. Yes the iPhone has a superior specification to the Hero, but the abundance of excellent, free software and the significantly more open marketplace made it a more attractive choice, not to mention the lower price and serviceable parts.
I got my phone through T-Mobile (regrettably) for £25 per month, giving me 800 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited internet. This deal isnt usually available to new customers, but I asked for something better than the standard tarriffs, and I was given just that. Albeit on a cataclysmically inferior network to O2. But then again, this is subjective, and T-Mobile may be better for some people. Just not me.0 -
Hi,
I'm really interested in this thread.
Always promised myself an iPhone when they came on Orange. But despite my being a good customer the retentions department won't budge.
However they will offer me the HTC for free with 400 mins and unlimited internet and text messages for just £15 a month. That's a saving of more than £540 over two years.
I've just bought a house so that kind of cash will come in handy...but I DO want an iPhone as I'm a bit of an Apple fan!!
Really interested to hear everyone's thoughts on this as I tried the HTC in a shop and was quietly impressed. My current phone is a truly awful Sony K850i which has been returned to Orange on no less than four occasions. I want something reliable too!

@Colliewobble - that retentions offer is pretty impressive and if the HTC offered to you is the Hero, I'd snap it up given your circumstances
Also means you can save your money for the rumoured Apple tablet device

If I had to choose one of those, it would be the Hero. Just because of the Google Apps integration. Excellent service.THE BIGGEST_MINT0

Clearly it depends what you're looking for but the HTC hero is by far the better phone.
The advantages of the iphone are mainly the 'status' it gives you, plus its a little easier to use from the beginning but is very restrictive in the way you can use it.
The hero can do everything the iphone can do and a hell of a lot more besides. Because of this it can take a little time setting it up the way you want.
I'd definitely go for the hero!0 -
