o2 bb problems

i've always been pretty happy with o2 bb up until my router lost all power in oct they replaced router then thats when problems started its as if it keeps disconnecting but they've done checks and they cant seem to fined the problem they even replaced router again as they said the router wasn't responding to them when they were trying to do things from their end. over the weekend i hooked up a netgear router and the same things happen so i dont think its the router, there are 3 laptops being used and we all know when its gonna go off we just end up asking each other "is yours running slow again?" just b4 it goes off  what i really want to know is before i phone them again is anyone else having problems with o2 its driving me nuts!

  • Go to the main socket in your house and unscrew the front. Plug the router DIRECTLY in to the socket that hides behind that and see if you still have the same problems...... Report back.

When your last router lost power, could it have experienced a 'surge' that also damaged your phone line?

The above will determine if the line is fooked.

If it's disconnecting then it isn't an O2 issue it's something wrong with your line or internal wiring.

Post up the connection statistics - there may be a clue in there.

    Do you have phone extensions?
    If so..
    • Are any of the extensions the plug in type?
    • Have you removed your ring wires on hard wired extensions?

Have you tried a different power adaptor or power socket?
A mate who I worked with at NTL had a fault call,he got everything replaced, still did'nt work. Then it was pointed out the one thing not replaced was the modem power adaptor, replaced that & it worked! It's the one thing people overlook when something goes faulty.

In which case it sounds like htere's a problem with the line. I can think of no other likely cause.

Is the router connected directly to the socket (via a filter, of course (I also assume you've tried a new one of these?)) or does it go through an extension ?

no phone extensions, also my post should of read changed filter rather than change filter, i will try another power adaptor also plugged in a different outlet, i'l see how it goes (as spike7451 suggested) not sure how to post connection statistics kwikbreaks:confused: i'm thinking more of it being a line problem cos they also said something about noise on the line, but they done something with it which they said shouldn't alter speed etc...

    Hi

Does your Netgear router disconnect after the connection as been idle for a while or does it disconnect while in use?
I only ask as I am on o2 and also had good connection for months and then for some reason over night the router would disconnect. If you logged into the router it said it was still connected.
I used to release the address and it would work again.

If this describes a similar problem that you are having I did find a fix for it.
Since applying it as never disconnected 4 weeks so far.

If you are using the O2 Box 2 you get the stats by...

    Clicking http://192.168.1.254

Login as SuperUser - the password is the serial number of your O2 Box

    Click Broadband connection
Click View more on the connection which shows as being active
Click Details (at top right of page)

Copy the details and paste in below. Here are mine...
    Link Information
    Uptime:2 days, 15:57:17 spacer.gif
    DSL Type:G.992.5 annex A spacer.gif
    Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:1,321 / 10,829 spacer.gif
    Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]:0.00 / 0.00 spacer.gif
    Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]:12.0 / 19.0 spacer.gif
    Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:20.5 / 37.0 spacer.gif
    SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]:5.5 / 4.5 spacer.gif
    Vendor ID (Local/Remote):TMMB / BDCM spacer.gif
    Loss of Framing (Local/Remote):0 / 0 spacer.gif
    Loss of Signal (Local/Remote):0 / 0 spacer.gif
    Loss of Power (Local/Remote):0 / 0 spacer.gif
    Loss of Link (Remote):0 spacer.gif

    FEC Errors (Up/Down):89 / 2,303,065 spacer.gif
    CRC Errors (Up/Down):89 / 310 spacer.gif
    HEC Errors (Up/Down):19,440 / 232
What I'm interested in seeing is the sync in relationship to the attenuation and the error stats.

With no extensions you have eliminated the major cause of problems so if it is still dropping regularly it could be a line or filter problem - are you 100% sure nothing else is connected to the phone at all (eg burglar alarm - the installers often connect these in directly)

If you are using the Netgear...

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 1513 kbps 1148 kbps Line Attenuation 47.0 db 28.1 db Noise Margin 26.4 db 7.6 db
I currently have the above stats on a netgear DG834GT router on O2 BB.

It does resynch at higher speeds so this is a lowest point IYSWIM

I think i have noise, technical issues. Even with two filters on the phone line, there is still some hissing and its a normal corded phone.

I need to work on it.

According to charts/distance etc i should be able to achieve at least 4 to 5 Mb

    Does this look noisy?

DMT tool is currently showing SNR peaks as high as late 40s/nudging on 50 db
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
