We now have 9 charity shops in our town because they get reduced rates on the shops that other business's couldn't keep going because of the high rents! I worked for a company that sell's flags and banners and so on...i have dealt with the BHF and they oreder £4,500 worth of table cloths from us, we weren't the cheapest so please don't tell me they are struggling!!

And as pendulum said a contract is a contract!! Regardless

    You don't have a clue

Firstly rate relief is discretionary based on the local authority, a store such as this is unlikely to qualify.

Secondly stores are often subsidised by reserves for a short period for PR purposes

Thirdly How do you know they are not struggling and even if they arent its probably something to do with them not selling tacky !!!!

That's fine, but it will be quite amusing to see in the paper about the man that is suing a charity as they accidentally through a sofa away.

Presumably this is a secong hand sofa, so if you go to court, you will be able to claim the value that it costs to buy a similar like for like sofa of the same age.
  • Anihilator, they haven't sold me anything!!! They took my money and threw the goods away!!!

    By accident.

What exactly do you want from this situation?
  • OlliesDad, I don't want to sue them!! I just wanted some advice on where i stand?? And as you say it was secound hand, so lets put it this way. One person sell's it to me another deems it as junk and throws it away with the junk! So is there not a moral standered here. One, we are quite willing to sell you junk for cash. Two, is there not a law that states all products on show must be to a standered for re sale??

It was of a standard to be sold, that's why it was for sale and why you bought it.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
  • Anihilator.....I would like a sofa!! This store sell's 50% secound hand and 50% brand new, i can't afford brand new!!! I was trying to do a good thing by buying from a charity shop!! giving what they want...CASH!!! If you feel i am wrong, then please send me your sofa as the wooden floor i am sitting on is a bit hard!!

As for my post...charity shop or not i am a CONSUMER!!!!!!

What exactly is it that you do want them to do?

Sales of goods act says they must be up to standard, but presumably you did examine the sofa before you bought it so can say it is of good quality, but as you said yourself, it was thrown out by mistake.

It has happened and there is nothing they can do now.

I have been put to a lot of trouble! I waited in for 5 hours for the sofa to be delivered,

Hmm when you've just moved into a house - every time I've moved in I've usually been busy unpacking for multiple hours and don't normally go out straight away (maybe to corner shop etc for teabags/milk etc)

I have to hire another van to go and pick up another sofa when i find one, If this is not trouble then please tell me what is?

You were happy for them to deliver before why not again? You don't really need to hire another van, you're making a mountain out of a molehill here

I brought a sofa from the the british heart foundation,

by the way it's bought when you purchase something and brought when you have taken something somewhere with you.
