I brought a sofa from the the british heart foundation, i paid in full and paid the £15 delivery charge. I was moving house this Sat and that's when it was ment to be delivered. I rang at 11:30 to say that i could pick it up and was told that is was on the van already. My Mum rang at 16:00 to ask if there was a problem and was told it had just left the shop. I rang at at 17:05 and was told it was on a lorry that had broken down and another van had gone to collect all the items on this lorry and bring them back to the shop and it would be with me within the hour. At 17:55 the assistant manager rang me to say that the sofa had been stored in an off site storage are and another shop had been over and threw it away!!! He then said come in on Mon and i will give you your money back!! I am now without a sofa and have been put to alot of trouble, what else am i entiteled to, because as far as im aware that was my property and my money has been taken and my sofa thrown away!!
Please help!! I'm sure if this was a proper store ie John Lewis they would be bending over backwards to help me....maybe even give me a sofa at the same price with a 50% dicount and my money back

I think the best you will get is a discount of another sofa but thats about it I'm afraid. Goto the store have a look around, see if there is a sofa you like and then play hardball and complain about the problems you had the last time and you feel its a fair compromise

Its a charity shop, what do you expect from them? And as for comparing them to John Lewis, that would be like comparing Debenhams to Harrods!!!:beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

You haven't been put to any trouble. Don't expect a local charity shop to operate the same way as a multi million pound multi branch department store.
You could push for the interest your money would have earned if it hadn't been in the charity shop's till. Which will amount to pennies......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Errata,
I have been put to a lot of trouble! I waited in for 5 hours for the sofa to be delivered, i was lied too, 3 TIMES i have a floor to sit on....i have to leave work early to go to the shop tomorrow. I have to hire another van to go and pick up another sofa when i find one, If this is not trouble then please tell me what is?0 -

As I see it OP entered a contract for a sofa and by paying and the company accepting the money, the company entered into the contract too, OP is entitled to receive the sofa or can get an equivalent one elsewhere and charge the company the difference. A contracts a contract and the manager telling the OP he/she has to go back to the store to collect the money is just really taking the mick.0 -
PS, This is not a local charity shop, this is the BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION a multi million pound organisation!!
If they want to run shops at dicounted rates then they must abide by the same rules0 -
Dibbo, I feel you would've got totally different responses if you hadn't have mentioned that this was the British Heart Foundation.0

The comparison is crap anyway.
John Lewis would give you a replacement or refund at most as well.
You can either choose a new sofa from them or ask for your refund. If you choose a new sofa maybe ask for preferential delivery and the charge for it to be waived.0 -
Pendulum, Yes i think you are right! and i thought i was right buy buying from a charity...a good one at that, cant give money but thought i was doing some good buy spending there! Anyway thanks for your advice
Wonder how much advice i would have got if i said it was DFS or John Lewis? Maybe 10 lawyers telling me to take them to the cleaners0 -

While legally there is a feint hope of some sort of case, but morally i don't think it right to pursue it.
What you are saying is that as they made a mistake with your sofa, you now want the charity to give you some sort of compensation (whether a discount/new sofa/cash). As charities are struggling as it is, it would be harsh to try and get them to part with the money. Although if you could negotiate an alternative sofa at least they can still get the sale.0
