Seller won't send item until 10 days from auction due to cleared funds?

Hi folks,
I've just made a large purchase on Ebay (just over £500) and I'll be paying by paypal through my credit card. However, I've just had an email from the seller as follows:
If you pay by paypal, I will have to wait for cleared funds, which will be at least 10 days to be sure.
Alternatively, pay by bacs to my bank. I f you want to do this, I will email you outside ebay.
Am I right in not being willing to wait the 10 days?! Seller has 360 feedback and the item is not a 'scam' item such as a mobile phone.

It might not be a mobile, but it's still £500! I can see why they want to play it safe, but so should you. (It goes without saying: don't give in and pay by BACS)
I presume the time they want to wait is for them to withdraw the money from their PP account. You shouldn't have to wait that long. It might be worth pointing out that if THEY wait that long before despatching, they will invalidate their seller protection!
You can't force them to send faster, but if they refuse to do so, you can certainly 1) open a dispute 2) report them 3) leave them appropriate feedback.
If you decide you don't want to tolerate their crappy terms, just be sure that you don't end up with a NPB strike. My TV is broken!

Hi Fay, thanks. It's a musical instrument.
Yes, the time they want to wait is for the money to clear into their bank. I'm not happy to wait 10 days for it. There was nothing about it on the listing. I don't know how to word my reply?
Don't worry, I don't plan on paying by BACS

I have this response so far (not yet hit send):
"It states on listing you'll send within 4 business days? I haven't heard of waiting 10 days before. Paypal requires you send it within 7 days or you actually invalidate the seller protection they offer."
It was a last minute decision to bid. Wish I hadn't bothered now!0 -
Added a few bits and played around with it... see what you think."It states on your listing you'll send within 4 business days so I'm quite surprised by your message - I wouldn't have bid if I thought you would delay that long. Are you aware that by waiting longer than 7 days you will be invalidating your Paypal seller protection?
I can only try to reassure you with my x positive feedback for purchases on ebay over the course of x years, and I hope you'll please change your mind and be willing to despatch in a timely manner. It's a lovely instrument and I'm really pleased to have won it."My TV is broken!

I agree, be polite but firm. Let him know that you are not prepared to wait that long,. Some sellers on ebay have absolutely no idea how to keep safe, and giving up all seller protection marks him as TSFE.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Got a response:
"no problem, just pay the money direct to my bank account and I will send it special delivery on tuesday, so you'll have it on wednesday.
Sorry, but Paypal seller protection is not worth a candle if the buyer defaults on the payment. Check out several previous examples on google. I don't bother for small amounts, but £500 is too much to not care about ! You have my address already, so you should be able to see I'm genuine. However, you have been an ebayer since 2005, so ought to be aware of the issue by now."
I'm not very happy really, any suggestions where to go from here? I am not doing BACS.
What do you think he means by buyer defaults on payment? I thought once the payment was sent it could not be recalled? Thanks for all your help so far.0 -
I think I would tell him that I had no confidence in him as a seller and would therefore like a refund ASAP so I can buy elswehere from a trusted site. If he refuses slam in a claim on day 7.
If he agrees to a refund refuse a mutual to cancel the transaction and make sure you leave appropriate feedback.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I've not paid him yet. This all came about from a footer at the bottom of his 'congrats you've won' message that said no posting until 5th january - I queried this and he said this was last years message, and then wrote about the 10 days thing.0 -
seems odd to me does he actually have the item or is he buying it with the funds ?Replies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0
