How do I find people who've moved but might have 'adopted' my cat? Help! :0)?

If you Do trace the address...what next? Surely the only thing to do is stake out the joint, under cover, binoculars and all!
Seriously though, I would not give them any advance warning by calling them, just turn upand knock on the door...see if kitty comes to the sound of your voice!
Please keep us posted...I am very curious to see how this one turns out...0 -

Why not??? I would!then as soon as cat came outside - scoop him up run like hell and take off in getaway car - preferably with someone else driving oh dear - been there done that! and still unsure if I am pleased with myself or ashamed!0 -
What next, walk up to door knock door door opens say hi you have my cat may i have it back please, ive put posters up in area and was told by one of your neighbours she/he is living here, she been missing so long and ive missed her, reported her stolen as she/he is chipped and to the police see what happens.0

Hi all, thanks for all your replies and yes, I would MOST CERTAINLY have staked out their house and got proof (pics) that my cat was there before going back to the police and have THEM go round and get her, also hoping the 'catnappers' got at least a warning for stealing my 'property'! Justice!!..............
Anyway, FANTASTIC NEWS!!!!!! My cat is now home, where she lelongs!!!!!!
(pasturesnew...... you owe me a pound!!!!!!! lol ;0)....)
The neighbours HAD stolen her! We got their number and address from the landlady but unfortunately she told them she was giving us their details so we couldn't 'stake the joint' as they knew we would be phoning but didn't know the reason (oh, yes they did! lol) and when we eventually got hold of them on the phone (they're out a lot) we asked them if they had unpacked everything as we were worried that our cat had got into their stuff or had jumped in their delivery van. (blah blah, can't go accusing policemen without proof lol) They said they thought she was a stray (they lived next door for a year and heard me, daily, call her for her dinner, though she stopped coming to my calls months ago but always came home at some point during the day. Also, they said they put a collar on her and wrote on it that they thought she was a stray but if not could the owner let them know. The collar they put on her, seemingly, was a red one (she had a red collar already that we got her!) and, who checks their own cats collar for messages????
My other neighbours also knew that the 'catnappers' knew my cat was my cat as they had talked to them on occasion about what a lovely cat she is etc.
To be fair, they did return her within an hour of the phonecall but then they would, as he's a policeman, and probably knew he didnt have a leg to stand on as i'm sure they just thought we wouldn't find them or even come looking for her via them!
I am soooooooooooo happy to have her back though and the kids are over the moon too and it's like getting my old cat back, now that they've gone, as she now eats all her food (we binned more than she ate for months and knew she was being fed elsewhere but thought it was tit bits from several neighbours etc and didn't mind as she was happy and still came home!) and she's indoors pretty much all day now and sleeps back on my bed and comes to me for her cuddles on my lap in the evenings.....again, something that didnt happen for the last few months but I just thought she was getting away from the kids but now know that next door was just too tempting for her. Again, I didn't mind where she went, if she was happy and still came home, as she's always been an 'explorer and a crafty chancer'! lol
I locked her cat flaps and kept her in till she was microchipped the next day and she's got a new pink collar with a tag that says she's been chipped and also have ordered an engraved identity tag with our address and number and the vets on the back so i've now done what I can too make sure the 'mistake' doesn't happen again but, as some of you think, I cannot keep my cat indoors as it'd kill her! She's an outdoor cat, mainly in the summer of course but she loves to know that freedom is just through her cat flaps if she wants it! lol
The main thing that still gets me is that when they returned her they didnt apologise once!! Now i'm sorry but, if it's true that they thought she was a stray, then the only natural thing to do would be to say "i'm sorry, we really thought she was a stray" but he was very much on the offensive and just kept coming out with things why they thought she was a stray (all rubbish!) but even still, you'd still mumble some sort of apology!! I dont care what any of you say on that matter (sowwy, just being honest!) as that alone, to me, just states they knew she was ours and were just trying to cover tracks without being nice cos they've been caught!
If I could've gone back to the police to report them for stealing my cat then I still would, simply because they didn't apologise and I was going mad not knowing where she was and my kids were very sad etc but, fortunately, they did the decent thing and brought her back (had no choice really!) so I've no proof now that they took her. Ok, that's all vindictive talk I suppose but I hate to think of them stealing someone elses 'baby' so to speak and the fact that they've no idea of what i've gone through since they took her.
Bitter, moi? lolol jk jk
Seriously, I dont really care (as justice would've been just the icing on the cake) as my cat's back!!!!!!!! :0D :0D :0D
We often make up songs with the kids on trips to the shops or to nanny and grandads etc and today hubby came up with this one which the kids heartedly joined in with and laughed, though they didnt really understand the words but knew it was about the cat and it had a catchy tune lol....
and here it is for you lucky peeps, courtesy of my 'not so great at songwriting but has a good go at keeping the kids occupied so what more could you ask for' hubby lol:
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
fluffy went away,
the neighbours moved, now she eats her food
and we can play with her all day!!
lolol
Thankyou to everyone who's replied over the last few weeks, i've appreciated each and every one!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic! Im so glad you got her back, your persistence paid off.
I agree with you that they sound like they were stealing her but at least they had the decency to admit she was there & bring her back.

Wayhay what a brilliant ending!!
Could have turned out so differently had they denied all knowledge and kept her housebound so perhaps credit due for their honesty (even though they were stupid, bloody idiots and caused a lot of heartache).
So glad you're all reunited. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

I am so happy for you and your wee cat! Well done for making so much effort in finding her - your persistance really paid off.
Hopefully those two catnappers will go to the cat sanctuary and take in a cat that genuinely has no home since they so obviously want a cat. Maybe you should send them a thank you card along with a list of telephone numbers and some pictures from Cats Protection League???? Go on, I dare you...0 -
haha glad you got her back but who in their right mind sees a cat with a collar on and thinks he/she is a stray.
We all know cats are chancers. My neighbours cat visits alot, he has been known to pop in for a sleep if i havent shut the bathroom window enough but he is collared, i know he is neighbours cat and he is a chancer with his pitiful miaows and the please feed me i'm starving eyes forgetting i have just witnessed him getting his lunch from neighbour.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000
