How do I find people who've moved but might have 'adopted' my cat? Help! :0)?

  • Seems to me that the most sensible option would to phone the police force he works for and leave a message asking him to contact you. You can then ask if he has seen your cat.
  • An ad in the local paper?

Hope you get your cat back soon. It does sound like they did take it and if so then at least you know it will be safe at the very least till you get it back. I have known people do similar, they think because someone elses cat goes to their house then it is unhappy at home - they dont realise that some cats just like to have many places to visit xx

  • Hi everyone!! Thank you all so very much for your replies and advice......it's all been helpful and comforting!!!!
I would much rather think of my cat with my ex neighbours (who seemed like very nice people) than run over somewhere or lying in a field etc......However, my search goes on as I love her, even though she may well be just as happy where she now is, but whos too say that those owners wont tire of the novelty of her when shes sicking up fir balls on their new 'shag pile' or gets ill etc.........and i've even considered the fact that i'll be spared her 'death', as such, as I wont be the one having to put her down if she gets really sick but will instead, sort of, see her as forever living, if you know what I mean ............THEN I think about the fact that I wont be the one to put her down if she gets really sick.....all of you with pets will know what I mean.....................

I'm mainly thinking about her life now though as we've just bought a new house (about to move) and it's everything I've ever wished for for my cat (and now, also, my kids) that she's never really had (always lived in a flat then a new build, terraced, small garden)........now we'll have a BIG garden with a few fruit trees (to claw to bits lol) and a huge field behind the garden with trees so she can catch bats and mice to her hearts content (I've spoken to her about leaving the bats alone as they're a protected species but she doesn't listen and wont stay in the naughty room lol), also, the house is big enough for her to find places to just 'be' without constantly being 'cuddled' by the kids :0)..........

...........I'd love to see and picture her there for the coming years before I meet her at 'rainbow bridge'...........................................

Anyway, i've now reported it to the police just to make them aware that I think a theft has occured and have found out their surnames from the landlady. The landlady has said she'll forward on the address but in case she doesn't, does any of you know how to find someone with a surname that I can check at the town hall etc, only the lady at the library said that even with a surname data protection is such that I dont stand 'bob hope'.
Again, all help greatly appreciated and thanks again for all your replies!!!!!
    Kind Regards and hugs :0)

PS: I cant see facebook or twitter, friends reunited etc helping as I need their address.
  • Hmm its a strange one and if they have taken your cat they will have done it because they have convinced themselves she is better off with them. I.E oh she is always hungry poor thing when she gets here if we go who will feed her- not realising she is a chancer who likes to get as much food from various sources. Please understand I'm not accussing you I know how greedy some cats are and how good they are at convincing you they are STRAVING hungry when you know for a fact they had only been fed an hour ago.

I'd go to the new town and armed with missing posters- if they let her out maybe one of her new neighbours will spot her. You may have to wait a bit though as you are supposed to wait 6 weeks before letting a cat out after moving house. Also go to the vets in the town explaining the situation ask if you can put up a poster and leave her microchip details or if anyone has recently registered a cat.

If she is mirco-chipped and had been handed in to the CPL or the vets she would have been scanned for a microchip already to see if she has an owner.

you can find people in a town quite easily actually - if they have a landline then go to the bt page and type in surname and address - not sure but i think just the town will bring up a list. faster than the other option - the electoral rolls - these are a matter of public record and libraries have the new editions - but if they have just moved may take a year or more to find them this way! and that is only if they are registered to vote.

I've been trying to find this but can only find a search facility for businesses - could you provide a link for the service you are referring to. Thanks.

Edited to add - it's OK, I found it

Hope this helps although if they've only just moved they may not be on this yet.

As tandraig suggested, you could try the BT residential number search: http://www.thephonebook.bt.com/publisha.content/en/search/residential/search.publisha

Search for them with their old address first as it might not have been updated or their landline might not be active at their new address. Then once they get their landline activated at their new address they probably have the same phone number, making it easier to find their home address.

Edit to say, also check in the BT phone directory book to see if you can find their number with their old address as the BT website might have updated the online phonebook.
