Buy a 1.1 that's a plenty big enough engine for your first car. My first car was a 1.1 and insurance was roughly 600
    £2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit :)) - £588

Don't forget that your post code has an effect on your premium as well, as others have suggested, a lower insurance group car would help your situation.

    its group 4 / 20. even if i bought a 1 or 2 surely it would still be 3000+?

The 1-20 groups are basically obsolete so you need to be looking at the newer 1-50 groups.

i doubt it like i said ive tried corsas and aygos and the premium is the same

its a standard 1.4 golf hardly a 6l ferrari. honestly unless it along the lines of a skoda i doubt the premium will change substancially no matter what i bought

They don't need to be boy racers. As I have said on these boards before, it only takes a moments lapse with 3 mates in the car to results in a £2-5million claim. Young male drivers, whoever they are, are very very prone to showing off, being egged along by mates also driving quickly etc, however sensible they are.

Young men crash more and worse than anyone else. sorry. As they build a clean record the price quickly drops though. The problem for underwriters (yes, I am one) is that no one can find a surefire way of telling who is who - telematics policies are a way of doing this, but no-one has got enough data yet to make it work, and the policies are much more expensive to run.

OP, if you are not worried about a black box policy, try Coverbox as they are not quite as harsh as MoreThan drivetime wrt charging in the peak hours - the high rate just applies on weekend evenings. They are also a broker so search a number of insurers. The billing process looks a bit complex to me though.

ive been searching pretty much all day and the best quote ive got is around 3.5k on a 2003 golf. its 1.4litres and pretty much standard.

remove the bold part from your car description and the cost of the premium might come down.
any modified car will attract an increased premium regardless of age or experience.

Even changing the wheels can affect it so the car you get will need to be 100% factory standard to minimise loading of the premium.

    it is 100% standard.

and to the guy who said i have a bad attitude, me paying £21 a week for lessons + £130 for tests and then £4000 for insurance because of some immature retards = getting !!!!ed off.
